A Sunbeam what?

Most people ask that question when I fill up for gas because Sunbeam stopped making cars in the mid seventies. The only way I knew them was an art teacher in my college had one, and I always thought it was cool for him to have a british roadster and it wasn't a MG.

After putting new shocks in my car, I drove it all over the place for the first summer I owned it. The paint was so faded, I could park it almost any where without much worry. There were enough door dings that it didn't bother me to park it in a parking lot. The next year, I decided to have the original motor rebuilt. I found a good crankshaft from a shop in Mount Vernon, NY and started ordering the rest of the parts. Because the motor had seen so few miles before it spun a main bearing, I didn't have to have any major machine work done. I did, however, have my mechanic install hardened valve seats so the engine could run on unleaded fuel.

I still haven't had a chance to paint the car, but someday...
