Vintage Races at Laguna
As usual, I headed out to Laguna Seca on Saturday for the Historic
races. The races are held for three days starting on Friday, but
Saturday is the only day I can go due to all the other activities
during the Monterey Weekend. Starting in the parking lots, you're
greeted with some pretty cool cars. California probably has the highest
concentration of classic cars, and an event like the Monterey Historics
brings them out.
My personal favorite pastime at the races is to inspect some pretty
cool cars up close and personal. The cars in the paddock are not
usually perfect show queens, but prepared race machines.
With the hub caps off on this Lancia 3C Flaminia Sport Zagato, it soon
became obvious how advanced the rear suspension was.
This 275GTB also caught my eye. It's pretty cool to own an alloy bodied
car, but even cooler not to paint it!
This body was probably largely reworked at some time in its past since
the craftsmanship was a little better than what came from the 60s.
I've seen aluminum bodied English cars polished to a high shine, which
is quite a difficult to get the bodywork so perfect, but this is
another way to do it. It's the Ferrari version of a "rat ride!"
François was actually out at Monterey as well, supporting a
Stanguellini Formula Junior for a customer.
Just a reminder, I'm looking for a
new Vintage Ferrari Project. If you have, or know of a restoration
project, please let me know. It would be great to restore another car
on this website! My E-mail.
