Ferrari Horn and Place to Stay for the Fall Party

Cal Spyder
We've been trying to get the Cal Spyder at Francois' shop finished up so we can get it to the Upholsterer's shop. We started with a long list of little things that needed to be checked. The fuel pump was not clicking, the starter motor was not working, the overdrive was not engaging, and the fog lights needed to be wired in. Over the course of a couple of days, we worked out all the bugs towards starting the engine, and moving this car under her own power.
Ferrari Horn
Another problem was a horn compressor that didn't seem to be pumping enough air to blow the horns. I never took one of these pumps apart, and was intriged by its simplicity. A motor turns an ecentric lobe that forces three vanes out into the body of the horn. These spinning vanes compress the air in the ecentric chamber, and forces it out to the horns. Two problems were at play. First off, the vanes had not been moved in a while, so they were not sliding smoothly in their slots. A little penetrating oil, and some excersize fixed that problem.
Marchal Horn
The next problem I found was the oil hole (under the little door) was oriented incorrectly. Since there are three mounting screws, the oil hole can be oriented in three positions. Only one of them allowed oil to reach the compressor vanes, but this horn cmpressor had the oil feeding the outlet chamber. No wonder the vanes were so dry! Soon we had a working horn again.

The Fall Party is coming together nicely, and it looks like people are coming from all directions. Let's all hope for good weather! Mike Meehan, the host of the 2006 Fall Party called, and is generously offering the use of his guest house for those that want to stay for the weekend. He lives about an hour's drive west of my house, and is planning on driving over in his 365GTC/4 on Saturday morining for the Party. He has indoor parking for several cars, and enough room to put us the same amount of people. If you're interested, e-mail him at: marie58@dmcom.net

Just a reminder, I'm looking for a new Vintage Ferrari Project. If you have, or know of a restoration project, please let me know. It would be great to restore another car on this website! My E-mail.
