Wrong plug is the reason. BP6ES should not be used. The reason the second washer is on is to give clearance for the projected tip which typically fouls the inner head at the base and closes the electrodes. Result is no spark. Someone was monkeying around to make the BP6ES plugs work. Use B6ES and y...

Hi John: No apology needed - it is often appropriate to start a discription from the basics, especially when the audience has an uncertain background. I often start a presentation with such a "review". In thinking about the Ferrari ignition, it appears to me that a 3 lobe distributor cam, coupled wi...

Hi John: I did use "fire" in a casual sense, like a rifle fires by pulling the trigger. But I was wondering about the ststement that one set "fires" 3 plugs, and the other "fires" the other 3. I couldn't see how that could be true, but I have seen that several times. Of course there were in the past...

Tom, I seem to recall Detomaso/Pantera using a dual point arrangment that did just that, dual points with an open overlap (to increase dwell and coild energy_... I wasn't sure if ours were the same because it doesn't look like the cam would provide that type of movement? Thanks Richard, for clarify...

Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix
Report from the Field: I attended the event as just another Italian car, rather than joining the formal gathering(s) a bunch of the east coast guys set up. The first day is the car show (grouped by nationality but not model or year), while the racers are practicing for the competition the next day. ...

Hi Yale: I had to look at the "Specs" listed for a tire rather than the nominal size to make any comparison. The current 215/(HR/VR)65 catagory by many makers seem to be the closest to the original XWX dimensions. As listed by Coker, the XWX 205/70 was 26.5 in diameter, 8.3 in section width. I ended...

Hi MIke:
Ran across a test of the modern XWX's on the following Mangusta site: He loves them.

Also, I can personally vouch for his comments about the Avon tire which I have on my car - temporarily.
Cheers

First off, you're going to need narrower shoes! Tom Why? Warren The GTE pedals, along with a lot of Ferraris, are very close, so running shoes are often not a good choice. Tom A serious question - are the GTE pedals even closer than the330 pedals? Even with narrow Pumas I have found it convenient t...

Grease Fittings.
Hi William Mine has the slotted screws, but I have a nozzle with a rubber cone on the end and works quite well. You just hold it into the hole with a little pressure and inject grease to your hearts content. If you have a nonstandard zerk fitting, there a nozzles which adjust to the different sizes....

Hi Tom: Speaking from long experience in viscous flow, a different viscosity will change the rate of flow, not stop or start it! Other factors like compatibility with the seal material can eventually cause a leak, as well as the obvious possibilities of bad seals or installation. In my case, soon af...

Re: thoughts on axle oil
250 weight oil is not so common in rural Ontario - and I see in these posts, folks using other weights. Can one use SAE85/95 in the rear axle of a 330? Did Ferrari use the 250 because they assumed you would drive at 145 mph all day, and the oil would be 220F? Drive it or it dies (as I eagerly await...

Re: Rear end seals
I replaced my rear end seals with new ones from the Algar about ten years ago and in spite of the fact that I have put virtually no miles on the car they are now leaking again. One fellow said that you need to use the 250w gear lube and they won't leak. Anybody have an opinion about that? Tom W Hi ...

Hi Tom, The first fall gathering was Oct 21 or Oct 23, the weather was great and so was the leaf color. Assuming my car gets done, I plan to attend. Regards, Art S. Hey Art: Weather was great? Speak for yourself - Judy and I drove over the mountains in snow, sleet, and rain on the way back. I vote ...
