Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Repair Questions

One of the things a pressure gage tells you is whjether the checks are operating properly. If the gage is steady, all is OK. If the gage is bouncing around a lot, then you have a check problem.

Mine runs steady at about 4-1/2 psi.

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Repair Questions

The only reason that I rebuilt my fuel pumps was, because the car had been "resting" for near 20 years, I was afraid that modern fuel with ethanol might cause failures, or even fire.

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Repair Questions

The fuel pump on my GTE drove me nuts after a "rebuild". I added a pressure gage and it led me to a check valve issue. Going back to the original checks solved my problems

Re: Vent window glass seal

Steele Rubber Products has the material that is speciffically for this job. The stuff comes in various thicknesses. I used it on my 275.
Steele makes repro rubber parts for many antuqie cars

No apology necessary.

I know spellcheck can do some crazy things.

Good luck on getting the tube sealed.

Also, a bit of lubricant under the head of the "bolt" will help it slide on the washer and provide a better crush.

When you annealed the washers, did you bring them to bright red and then quench in water - that will get them dead soft

Re: Colour in engine bay

On repainting the engine compartment of my 250 GTE, I removed the number plate on the firewall to display the original black paint. With some experimentation, I found, using Rustoleum, that a mix of 8 parts flat black to 10 parts satin black is very close to the original

Re: Anybody seen or used the repro stainless bumpers?

As inconsistent as the older Ferrari bodies are, I'd be surprised if a reproduction bumper did fit "out of the box".
I had an early 275 GTB and a friend had one just a few serial numbers away. For the heck of it we compared some body parts - no match at all.

Mc Master Carr is a good supplier of metric "O" rings. You will probably be able to find one there. I'd go with Viton material

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump Issues

When I rebuilt the mechanical fuel pump on my GTE, it drove me crazy because no matter what I did I could only get about 2-1/2 psi out of it. I could tell that the inlet check valves were leaking because I could blow back through them with the pump disassembled. The checks were new. In the end, it t...
