Re: Project???
In regard to the owner's treatment of the car, he was old-school about it. It was a car, and it had a purpose (transportation, admittedly elegant, high speed transportation, but still), and when it didn't work for him he stuck it in his garage. Most of us might have sold it instead, but that was his...

Re: Project???
The Seinfeld car was usable in the state he bought it (or maybe he did some minor servicing, but it wasn't much). This car, I would say, is past the point of being made into a usable driver... even for someone like me, who likes a bit of "patina." I think you could get this car into very presentable...

Re: Project???
There's clearly no way to "make money" on it, but I think you could do a nice driver-quality restoration and end up with a great car, done to your specs. And it has a good history to go with it. I think that, if the buyer knows what they are doing, it could turn out to be a good purchase. There was ...

Re: Project???
I'm thinking parts car, sadly. How much is a 365 2-cam motor worth these days?

Forest Grove Concours
I was wondering if anyone on this board has a GTE and is located in Portland or Seattle (or, I suppose, Bend, Salem, Medford, etc). I ask because at the Forest Grove Concours this year, we're going to have basically all of the Ferrari series production 2+2s on display, including my 365GT and 612. Th...

Snaps on Grill
I'm getting my 365GT ready for paint, and in the process we removed the grill to be refinished. The underside of the top of the frame had about 6-7 old snaps on it, spaced across the length-- any thought what these would have been for? Supposedly the car was sold new in Denver, so I'm wondering if i...

Re: Rebuild costs
I'm looking at the bill for my 365GT rebuild. Labor was 152.25 hours, for $15,225. Parts were $11,422.85, which included a new clutch disk, pressure plate, and throwout bearing, and an MSD ignition setup. This also included new JE pistons, main bearings, connecting rod bearings, etc. Machining was $...

Re: Rebuild costs
I tried to do that over there, but various people got into a whole one-upmanship thing about costs. My 365GT motor cost approximately $31k, including a new clutch and various "while you're in there" items (but not including carb rebuilds, as they were done by Pierce Manifolds about a year before). I...

The previous owner of the car is on FerrariChat fairly regularly-- you could ask him about the screw heads.

Re: Grandpa's 250 GTE...
The dealer in Beaverton where I saw it was Motorsports International. Many years ago, the repair shop split off from the sales side, and the repair side kept the name and is still in business (they work on my German cars). I doubt if they'd have any sales records, though. Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo is ...

Re: Driving the vintage ones
The mention of David E. Davis reminds me of this passage from an article he wrote in May 1965, about driving a 275/LM from Philadelphia to New York: Leave the turnpike. Go down through the gears. You have to take them in order because the lock-out on the gate is progressive-- second can't be engaged...

Re: Grandpa's 250 GTE...
The first GTE I ever saw was either white, sometime around 1982-83, at Motorsports International, which at the time was a used car lot in Beaverton Oregon specializing in Porsches. I wonder if that was the same car?
At the time, I was 16 years old, and really, really wished I had the money to buy it!

Any other thoughts on 4027? I don't know if I can justify another car right now, but I really like the idea of a 250GTE driver. Probably have to wait until the price drops, at least-- if it does. There are a couple other interesting planters there that I will try and get a couple pics of. Not sure w...
