Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Cornelis: While I do not wish to get into an argument about 450S Maserati's, I am also not interested in having incorrect information associated with my name. So lets clarify this: 1. Attached is a photo of one of the pages of the Maserati factory data sheets for 450S #4504. I have circled on the sh...

Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Cornelis: One additional point of clarification on the Maserati 450S fuel system. The engine driven pumps are also known as FIMAC pumps, though Maserati refers to them as MONA units.

Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Cornelis: The 450S Maserati uses two FISPA Electric pumps. I know because I restored the car. It also has one MONA MECHANICAL pump, not electric as you have illustrated. The race cars used the MONA MECHANICAL pumps and usually drove them off of the front cover gear train or, in the case of some Ferr...

Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Tom: The pump would have been fine, except it must have overheard you mention that you were going to a Ferrari meet!!!

Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
A lot of these fuel problems are related to the fuels today as well as the location of the original electric pump mounting. If you wait until you are stuck in traffic, you will probably be too late to turn on the electric pump, as it will vapor lock, with the resultant rapid 'clicking'. The best way...

Re: fuel filter regulator on 330 gtc
Steve: It must be the holiday, as I was sure somebody else would respond. Apparently not, so here goes. The "glass bowl" filter is also a pressure regulator. The screw you mention sets the pressure. Usually, it has been "staked" into a certain position that corresponds to about 3 psi. To check the p...

Re: Carb Synching (the sequal)
Steve: What you have to set individually BEFORE hooking up the linkage is to equalize the airflow through each carburetor. Once this is set for each carb, the linkage is attached per my articles and then you can fine tune idle speed and mixtures. Obviously, if the mixtures are way off, you may need ...

Re: Carb Synching (the sequal)
John: You also may have to switch the levers to different positons on the engine. In your photo, the rearmost lever should become the center lever, etc. Try swapping things around and you should be able to get everything in good shape.

Re: Carb Synching (the sequal)
John: Flip the levers over so the bolt head is on the outboard side of the engine, then rotate the socket on the end of the rod 180 degrees to fit the ball on the lever. As long as everything still has clearance, you should be good to go.

Re: NEED HELP
Conventional mineral based motor oils tend to destabilize at temps over 300 degrees F. Synthetics can withstand temps approaching 400 degrees F. Some of the American V-8 engined vintage racers we run (Cobras) have the original oil coolers and they are not as effective as modern units, but we leave t...

Re: NEED HELP
The temps you report are exactly what I would expect to see with this car. The previous post is correct in that the fans will cool the water, but only air flow cools the oil. Actually 100 degree C oil temps are good for the engine, as it drives off any fuel contamination in the oil, and most engines...

330GT Interior, Seats, Carpet,Gas Tank available
Many years ago, I saved the complete interior and gas tank from 330 GT 2+2 body Number 49. I have been too lazy to determine the chassis numbr of the car, but obviously it was an early car. The 330 was sacrificed to make a GTO replica and I was able to save the interior from being trashcanned. I nee...

Re: Backfire valves
The other thing the one-way valves do is prevent gasoline vapors from reaching the booster diaphragm and destroying it. Do not ask me how I know this to be true.

Re: 0851GT (and other early PF Coupés)
0851 was the prototype PF Coupe. It has many unique features. For the entire history and the restoration story, you can read the three part article Sue wrote in Cavallino's # 43,44 and 45.

Re: Dwell Setting
John: You are correct, we are now officially off subject. 0851 had taillights like those used in some Series II 410 Superamericas. The bulb holders were built into the rear fender, and the overall shape was slightly different then a standard PF Coupe taillight. In 1992, we sold the car to Bill Cosby...
