Re: Missing cover over engine mount?

Hi Kerry There should be one each side to protect the rubber mountings from too much exhaust heat. They were made from 1.5mm aluminium sheet and are very simple to replicate. I think they were originally fixed with a type of self tapping screw, but I drilled and tapped the support legs for small M5 ...

Re: 250 Pinion Bearing Installation

Pressing is always to be favoured for bearing installation, but in is difficult in this instance. I would suggest making a simple puller for this job, with a thrust washer to put the load onto the outer race only and a heavy section machine screw passing through the bearing to another plate on the o...

Fitting cylinder heads

The parts book for the 365 GT 2+2 engine shows 4 locating pegs for the cylinder heads. These pegs are hollow and also provide the main oil passageways from the crankcase through to the camshaft assemblies. Three of the pegs are identical but the fourth has a smaller bore. Am I right in assuming that...

Re: 365 GTC clutch release bearing

This little problem sent me down a side alley which sheds a little light on the joys of restoring these old cars. I am overhauling the engine of my 365 GTC and while the engine block is away being machined I have been trying to sort out all the ancillary parts, including the bell housing and clutch ...

Re: 365 GTC clutch release bearing

Hi Zac, You were quite right in your assumptions. I attach a photo of the thrust bearing carrier and the worn area can be clearly seen. The carrier slides quite freely on the tubular shaft, so there is no problem there. It just seems that the end of the forks are much harder than the back face of th...

365 GTC clutch release bearing

Hi there, I am in the process of changing the thrust bearing on my 365GTC. The bearing is held in a steel hub which slides along a support tube when the clutch is operated. The back of the hub appears quite worn where the clutch lever presses against it and I was intending to build up the worn area ...

Re: Trim rings for Ferrari 330 America headlights

Hi there, I lost a headlamp rim from my 365 GTC when out on a drive. I tried retracing my steps the next day but it must have bounced into the long grass somewhere. It took me several months and quite a few false starts to find an accurate replacement and I now have a little collection of headlight ...

Re: Valve adjustment

Hi there I have made an accurate degree wheel from paper, with divisions marked in firing order. I fix this to the inside face of the cam sprocket, lining up number 1 very carefuly with TDC and then move the car forward in fifth gear by pushing on a front wheel so I can easily see when the marks lig...

Re: My 330 GT Engine To Be Rebuilt

Hi there,

I'm enjoying watching your progress. I have a 365GTC and I am making an engine stand at the moment. Can you tell me what hole centres you need to bolt the stand to the engine block, so I can get these drilled before taking the engine out.

Many thanks

Hi there, I was looking for a photo of my 365 GTC at Prescott. It was so wet and miserable that I hardly took any shots. Would you object if I copied and used your photo of me and my daughter on the track? I will also be at Goodwood next Sunday and hopefuly Gaydon this weekend. See you there?

Hi there, The symptoms you describe sound almost identical to a problem I had with my 365 GTC, when I first bought it. The car would run fine up to about 4000rpm and would then almost "chug" along if you tried to level off and cruise. it turned out to be poor float setting (too high) in the carburet...

Yes, I had the whole unit out on the bench and it was then very simple. I had the rear end stripped right down at the time, with transaxle out etc, so it would have been silly not to do everything properly whilste I was at it.

Glad to hear everything went OK and you now have your fuel system sorted.

It is very easy to fit the new filter and canister with the body held in a vice!

I know its frustrating if you've just refitted the banjo bolts, but you would also get the chance to clean the top of the body properly. I guess by now you have already managed the job anyhow?

I am pretty sure that copper washers are original, as on my 365 GTC. In the UK the washers you describe with a rubber insert are known as "Dowty" washers, after the company that makes them. They are very well engineered seals and the rubber has a sort of cruciform cross section. The rubber deforms a...

Dreadfully sad to hear your news. I think there are quite a few of us who worry about the possibility of some nut breaking into our garages and stealing Ferrari bits. With my car car so often in pieces I worry about kids breaking in just to steal a Ferrari grill, or badges. To lose an engine would b...
