Battery
Re: Battery
Last year I was watching "How its made" on the science channel, and the topic was lead acid batteries. They were filming the manufacture of very interesting batteries at the Odyssey Battery plant. I then Googled Odyssey, and discovered something new in car batteries. They use pure lead (read: more expensive), which allows the batteries to work better and longer than conventional lead acid, and they are the only car battery that can be shipped by mail to customers, because of their proprietary non-liquid technology. I'm personally tired of tar top battery misbehaviors/unreliability. http://www.odysseybatteries.com

Just another data point from December of 1967, Italian magazine ad. Was this style FIAMM battery ever seen as OEM in the same period Ferrari?

Re: Battery
Not much detail here, but some cool photos of the Fiamm Batteries being assembled in 1963.
These are from the same article as the horn photo.

Re: Battery
Here are some pictures of 330 GT engine compartments with at least some of the battery visible. These are from period magazines in the mid-60s, so presumably the batteries were the originals. As you can see, several different varieties.

Re: Battery
Hi Tom and Kerry, Great documents for battery photos, thanks.
I would like to request a cropped, 600dpi scan of just the battery from the following photos, when you get a chance.

This battery seems to show a light colored top, and flag tab cell caps, and i am not at all familiar with this. Anybody provide helps with this?

Re: Battery
These are Baroclem batteries. The R&T pictures look like factory press release pictures, so quite sure it is the original battery.carello wrote:Hi Tom and Kerry, Great documents for battery photos, thanks.

BTW, if you click on any picture, the scroll bars disappear the the picture is shown in full size (though wide ones get cropped on the right).

Re: Battery
I had a car shipped from Amsterdam to the USA but before doing so had the
battery replaced. The replacement battery was the German made VARTA.
Outstanding, typical German, superb quality this battery can start a Panzer
tank in a Russian winter. I am disappointed with modern day batteries,
they don't last at all anymore.

Re: Battery
Also worthy of note, every one of those old engine bay photos showed rounded battery cable ends (terminal clamps), like the ones Mike Dunn reproduces at madenterprise. I never managed to get a definitive square-vs-round consensus while I owned my 330GTS. I wound up changing the ground cable to the rounded style because it was visible (no rubber cover over the clamp), but didn't remove the exhaust manifold just to swap out the positive cable.

Re: Battery
What is the color scheme of the Baroclem period style battery? It appears light on top. Cell cap colors? The top looks like a skin over the entire top with holes cut out to allow access to the lead dogbones.
anyone have details on this?
