Cheney Clamps

Post by enio45 »

I and getting ready to work on the motor components and was looking thru the parts book and other motor examples and am a little confused on the correct application of the Cheney Clamps.

Can anyone provide some insight to the following locations for Cheney Clamps and where the wire band clamps are applied? Examples below.....

Areas that im interested in :
1. brake booster hose - ?
2. upper rad hose - ?
3. lower rad hose - ?
4. lower rad hose heater hose tubes - ?
5. heater boxes hot water - ?
6. Hot water turn valves - ?
7. water pump to intake hose - ?
8. Clear long tubes on the front of the motor - Cheney clamps
9. Firewall cowl vent drain tubes - Ribbon Clamps
10. All the heater and blower motor vent tubes - Ribbon Clamps
11. Oil filler Caps - Cheney clamps
12. Hot water valve on the intake - ?
13. Rad overflow tube - ??

any others?

Also - ref the Cheney Clamps - what is the correct finish for these. It looks to me that the ones i have, the screws are a clear zinc finish and the bands are some type of a steel finish....but not a CAD looking finish?

Appreciate the thoughts

As far as the engine goes, the way to figure out what clamp went where is to follow the factory's logic. If the water hose had to be disconnected to pull the engine out of the car, they used a Cheney clamp. If the connetion would not be disturbed, a "wind up" cotter key style clamp was used.

Cheney clamps were orioginally cadmium palted, but today bright (clear) zinc gives a similiar finish and much better protection.
