Brush holder in generator broken

Post by Sloper »

Restoration on America 5035 is finished... :-); however on first drive, found out that the generator is not charging correctly...; disassembled and found 2 brush holders are broken - are there any spares or new reproductions around? If somebody knows, please advice....

Take it to a place that rebuilds alternators. They will probably be able to source replacement parts.

You are right, Tom....; but after nearly 2 years (and spending about the same money as the 2002 sale price) it is quite important that restauration has finished (partly...) - about the alternator: my mechanic told me, that those broken brush holders are well known of breaking, but at least here in Europe there are no replacement parts (for the time) - so hoped to find a solution in the U.S...; for the time, we glued the holder together - hope to be able to drive 5035 until the end of summer and then sent it somewhere to overhaul....

What's the manufacturer of your alternator?

Just had a look - It`s a MagnetiMarelli GCA101/B - the glue on the brush holder is holding strong for the time - did some driving this weekend, very happy with the result of the restauration (at least for the time...)

Marelli alternators are made under an agreement from Bosch, and the Bosch shops should easily stock new ones. Jim

Jimmy R, is there a Bosch Shop that you know of here in the valley where i can get a few parts for my MM alternator?

Thanks in advance - and thanks for the referral to Andy for my motor work!
