So here's a question I've been wanting to ask for a while. When is an e-bay listing for a real car (this Lusso), from a real dealer (Symbolic) not a real listing?

Here's what I mean. We're not talking your run of the mill 360 Modena here. With the number of these cars that come to market at any given point in time and the number of potential buyers, I've got to believe that anyone interested in buying a Lusso already knows where all the available ones in the world are. Including this one. It's not hard information to come by.

The auction has a reserve, which will be what Symbolic knows full well the car is worth; they're not motivated to sell it quickly (meaning below market); and it's not as though the car is a recent barn find.

Clearly, this car is not going to sell on e-bay. Therefore the question: should this listing be looked at purely as an advertisement? Maybe as a favor Symbolic did for those oof us who like to look at nice documentary pics of a well-presented car? What really?

I also have wondered about some of the cars you see. While interesting to look at I doubt anyone from this site is likely to bid on a 275gtb , a lusso , or any car whose value is well over 6 figures. As stated, these cars are known entities in the community. And why even place a bid of $40,000 seems like a waste of typing time.

Many people, I suspect, who are rich and not knowledgeable about Ferarris and other avenues to purchase, look to e-bay. So presumptions of knowledge about other market sources and reasonable prices (for cars over 200k) outside of ebay may not be correct.

I see a lot of cars on ebay that you can almost predict will never make reserve. More smoke and mirrors than anything else.

really now

what I meant by 'real'
was that the Car actually was being listed
by the person who actually has the car for sale

this is in reference to the spate of recent scams on eBay
involving Ferraris
typically with cribbed photos and a ridiculously low 'Buy it Now' price.

lately, some of the better scammers are pirating the ID of 'good' eBayers
and then inserting another email address in the body of the ad

I usually report any scams I spot to eBay immediately
and eBay has been (admittedly) very good about yanking the listing ASAP

as for the listing being a legitmate attempt to auction the car
I think the typical lister is using the medium as a form of advertising
to 'get the car out there'
rather than being a honest attempt to sell via auction

being somewhat of a 'Veteran' eBayer
(I now am up to 14 @ 100% WAH HOO HOO)
I do understand the concerns of the seller:
the 'vig' paid to eBay on each sale is pretty steep
(and with reserve is even higher)
with a high end item, this can be a good chunk of change
(I think eBay is shoting themselves in the foot
by charging such exorbidant rates)

it usually is much better to list at the top end price-
if someone buys it, fine
if not, then interested parties know where to find me

I did not intend this to devolve into a discussion about the merits of eBay
BTW
I just wanted to share the pretty pictures with you all!

BTW E-Bay can charge whatever they want stock is up 600% and has been the location and tool for finding items that without them I would't even begin to know where to look. At least one tech company has manged to make money and has a good bussiness plan, more power to them. Just wish I invested more with them and less with some of the other crap

I think it is cheap advertisement for teh WW market....there is a guy in MI that advertises his 69 ZL1 Camaro for over 1M and his ads has alot of other info about his parts and services....he gets tons of hits of curious people.....

Get the publicity WW, then off line if it does not sell, neg a real deal??
