365 GT 2 + 2 restoration
Re: 365 GT 2 + 2 restoration
Well its stopped pouring but still heavily overcast. We’ve waited so many many years so we thought we may as well wait just a wee bit longer for the sun to come out.
While we wait the thought is to start collecting
parts required for a front and rear suspension job
Based on the vast experience in this forum - Are there any do’s and donts? Is there a rebuild kit for the kone self levelling shocks? Our thought is to get all the parts like bhusings etc from Rutlands. Is this the right vendor or should we be looking at someone else who is familiar with the queen and would carry all parts required?
Tom - was going through your blog and noticed that for Mike’s Queen you said Koni no longer rebuild the self levelling shocks but provide a coil over shock kit which is a nice bolt in. Could you give me some more information - whom to contact and a part nr?
Thanks

Partsource has the Koni shock update, but Rutlands may have it too. It's a coil over set up that replaces the load leveling shock.

Re: 365 GT 2 + 2 restoration
Have started on the suspension rebuild.
A couple of questions
Are bolt in replacements available for the shocks or do we
Have to get them rebuilt?
Also the self levelling unit - who specialities in reliably
Rebuilding them?
Thanks

Re: 365 GT 2 + 2 restoration
Hi AD,
They make a coil over replacement kit for the load levelling shocks for the 365-400 series cars with these shocks. They will no longer be automatically adjustable, but can be adjusted manually like a coil over. I believe the original shocks were problematic and the seals fail often enough that even with a rebuild, they will prematurely fail again.

Re: 365 GT 2 + 2 restoration
Thanks for the feedback
Could you give me a couple of names where i could get
The coil over update?
And what about the self levelling unit?
Once the coil over update installed just disconnect it?

Re: 365 GT 2 + 2 restoration
Hi A.D. the fix is very simple. Just remove the self leveling shock and replace it with the coilover. It will look the same as the remaining rear shock except that there is a coil spring and adjusting nuts to even the height in the rear.It is a simple swap.I think I got mine from Rutlands or GT Car Parts but I do not remember. It is easy and works great.Good luck,Mike

Hi
A question for all the folks driving a vintage Ferrari in
California or other such warm climates.
Have you faced a problem of the coils overheating and consequently the car shutting down?
How does one fix this?

Re: 365 GT 2 + 2 restoration
Greetings... For a conventional ignition, check the resistance across the oils and ballot resistors. It should measure about 3 ohms. If you disconnect the resistor (the square burgundy thingy) from the coil both should measure about 1.5 ohms. Lower resistance will allow more current flow which will cause overheating. Is the the whole engine shutting down or just 6 cylinders? Does it use an ignition amplifier (black box).
