Anyone know Interim Berlinetta #1377GT?

Post by David Booth »

Hi all:

Can anyone help with history and/or pictures of 250 Interim Berlinetta # 1377GT, or with the cast of characters below? Thanks in advance for any help.

Here’s what the Barchetta website has on the car:
http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Fer ... .250GT.htm

So can anyone enlighten me regarding:
Who was Carlos Kaufman – Ferrari importer for Venezuela, maybe?
Does the Max Meyer who seems to be the first owner have any connection to the Max Meyer paint codes often listed for our cars’ colors?
Any idea where or when the car was “badly crashed” in 1967, and whether multiple Le Mans competitor and Chinetti backer George Arents was responsible?
And finally, where the car is today?

I’m attaching two photos of 1377’s six sister cars: the green/white one in racing trim is # 1509 and the silver one in street trim is # 1521.

Carlos Kaufman was the importer for Ferrari cars in Caracas, Venezuela, according to a Ferrari friend of mine in Caracas. I do not know if he also was the importer for the rest of South America.

Carlos Kaufman was the Venezuelan importer, the Max Meyer reference is the paint number for white, he didn't have anything to do with the car, I believe the car was wrecked when owned by Cherubini, then the remains were sold to Chinetti. No idea where it is today.

Pourret's 250 book called out these details. Second Version prototype by Pininfarina, gas filler on left fender, slightly different roof line than subsequent models. Detachable hood panel without blister, leather strap fasteners. Small door on nose for access to water radiator. Outside plug 128DF motor. 40 DCZ Webers (6), 9.5 Comp ratio, sump and cam covers made of Elektron. Registration EE 8065.

Here's a photo from Lemans 1959.

Wow - two great responses already, including a Le Mans picture. Thanks, guys!

T3: the Max Meyer reference is pretty clear in some of the other mentions I've found, and it doesn't seem to reference the paint code/color. Here's what I'm talking about:

http://www.ferraribuy.com/fb/datab/250GT.htm

If the red background on the linked page makes your eyes hurt as much as it does mine, the first line of the summary on 1377GT says, "..delivered to Carlos Kaufman for Max Meyer of Venezuela on 10th June, 1959..".

It would take MONTHS to correct all mistakes I've found on barchetta.cc. It simply can't be trusted.

The Ferraribuy.com source you listed is even worse - much worse. Totally useless!

Max Meyer is definitely part of the paint code (Bianco Max Meyer 10319).

Carlos Kauffmann (note spelling) was the Venezuelan importer who sold the car to Lino Fayen.

Best wishes, Kare

All:

Much to my surprise, one of the seven 250 Interim Berlinettas was at the Monterey Historics this past weekend. I was able to talk to owners Tony and Lulu Wang (Lulu was the driver) after the morning warmup Sunday and get some details on the car.

This is an inside plug 128D engine. And due to Lulu's diminutive size, she was hustling the car around Laguna Seca with all sorts of extra padding added to the seat.

Supposedly, another 250 Interim was shown at Pebble Beach as well. Did anyone check it out?

The #1377 have a rare 128DF engine:
I read that this engine have sump and valve covers in elektron and the block with 3 studs for securing heads but the 128F type(jess pourret).
The 128F block have 4 studs and the 128D 3 studs; its possible that exist a special block only for the type DF like Pourret's spec.?
Someone know where is the original #1377 engine fitted?

Hello,
the interim 128DF used the same heads as an 128F engine both with 3 studs to keep the heads in place.
The 4 steads came later the DF engine used the old generator solution in he middle not on the right
the fuelpump was driven on the right-cam
Ask Kare he is an expert in this kind of info. on one of the fotos is an modified PF-coupe dashpanel.

ciao
