My 330 is coming home!

Post by DBR330GT »

Hi guys,

A followup to my car. Recall I asked about why there was oil coming out of my rear Borrani. It was suspected to be a rear axle seal so my tech, Richard Cappocia from his new shop, Competizione and Sports Cars, picked it up. If you havent heard this is an amazing place with first rate work. He has done all the work on my car before.

Of course what was a simple problem turned into some major work done:

Replace both rear axle seals and bearings
all carbs rebuilt (one was leaking)
oil change
diff fluid change
replace elec fuel pump
fix fuel line
new ignition wires
new ignition coils

Check compression. Recall cyl #4 was 30 psi 2 years ago. Now it is 175psi!!! With regular use something must have freed up. Overall the compression is much better than before. Although the engine, having never been rebuilt is far from new, this is encouraging.

Finally, i had the car professionally darailed by Chris Davis and it is stunning! Please see:

I cant believe it is my car- looks so good.

I have spent a hell of a lot of money on the car but I still should be in the black given rising values,

Very cool. I have never seen a derailed car before! It looks fantastic!

What city is Competizione and Sports Cars in?

Derailed??

Oh Tom;

You've definitely been online to long! But come to think, derailed cars are those you see on Wrecked Exotics that tried to beat the train at RR crossings. Certainly Dan's car does not qualify for that dubious honor.

Beautiful job Dan! Your detailer must be very accomplished to use the Makita single action buffer shown off in the mirror-like finish of your fender.

You are ready for concours now.

Dan,

If you don't mind sharing, what does a detail like that cost?

Tom Y,

I only have time to run up to the show and judge. Unfortunately, the 330 will stay at home. But soon I plan to have time (ha!) to take it long distances.

Tom W,

Gaithersburg MD

Art S,

$50/hr x 13 hours. Almost all on the exterior alone.

I am excited to get it home to see the work but for me I am equally excited about the improved compression in that cylinder,

Dan,

She's a real beauty and ready for the show circuit! That color works so well with the lines of the body.

Hope you saved all the original items that were replaced by your mechanic.

Congratulations on a stunning car.

Chris also resurrected my paint before Reading - the results are amazing (gotta love black @#$%^! cars) and his work ethic is equally amazing - 11 hours straight aided by Red Bull.

Bryan,

He did a great job on your car as well!

Rudy,

I have been saving all the cars old parts since i got it- It fills a big storage bin by now.

Are these old parts worth anything?

Dan,

In a sense those original parts are priceless. To me, once a part that came with the car from the factory is gone for good, takes just a bit more away from that car. Sure, everything may look new and glossy, but perhaps it misrepresents what the true car really was when it actually left the works shop. To have the originals with the automobile validates how it should be and what is correct. Those pieces will also allow future generations to have the option of re using what came with the car and/or restoring them for re use as well.

As a Shaughnessy T-shirt says, "It's all junk til you need it".

But when you need it, it becomes irreplacable. I've kept my old parts, including a couple of old coils that came with the car. A couple of years ago, I burned one out on the way home from Monterey. An overnight package from my wife got me back on the road by 9 the next morning.

If nothing else, perhaps your broken part plus one from someone else can be made into one good piece. The nut holding the radio antenna on my 308 came off while I was driving and was lost. Someone on FerrariChat had replaced his broken antenna but saved the nut and washer. That saved me from replacing my otherwise good antenna.
