Help: 275 Dust Boot Cover ?
Does anyone know if a 1966, 275 GTB long nose has a dust boot cover at the throw-out bearing fork where it enters the transmission house ??? ( I don't think I know what I am talking about). I was told by this individual that it is missing. I checked w/ a mechanic who said 275 does not come with dust boot cover ? If anyone knows, I'd appreciate a feedback. Much obliged and thanx in advance for an expert opinion. w/ smiles Jimmy

275's do not have any rubber boot covers over the throwout bearing arm where it enters the clutch bellhousing. Not listed in the Parts Book and I have never seen one on any car.

Thanx for the reply and your knowledge, Dyke. Nevertheless, from another source in England, the gentleman indicated that 275s do come with transaxle boot ??? Meanwhile, my local mechanic also indicated that he wasn't aware of any boot like that. Hmmmmm,...confused still. w/ smile Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,
I can understand the confusion. I'm working on a 275GTB restoration, and Matt Jones at Re Originals stocks a lot of rubber for this car that never was originally made, like door handle gaskets and hood opening seals. There are a lot of places on a GTB that don't get gaskets, and yet they're for sale! Also be careful on simple things like hood bumpers. They're different for the Scaglietti bodied 275s than the Pininfarina built cars (built and designed are different things). The round hood bumpers are for 275s, but the ones Matt sent us are squarish for Pininfarina cars. Double check everything before ordering. It's a PITA to have to send things back.
Mechanical things are left to the Ferrari Factory, so there is a little more consistency.

Re: Help: 275 Dust Boot Cover ?
Thanx a bunch for more detailed insights to my confusions. This was was restored in Italy few years ago and I tend to think that they did things "properly" ? (I know, it depends...). I checked with my local mechanic as stated earlier, and he researched and got a reply from a supplier showing a rather large, round rubber item with a central hole and four other holes in the corner. Couldn't make what of it and we were baffled. It never bothered me until someone pointed out this "missing part", after seeing one of the pics. I'll take your sage advice and move along slowly regarding this matter. Thanx again. w/ smiles Jimmy[img]

The round rubber boot you speak of is for use in the interior of the car where the shift rod to the transaxle exits the interior through the rear wall. It is just to the inside of and behind the drivers seat. These boots rarely last very long because they have to operate at a very acute angle and the rubber tears quickly. If you have a torn boot on your car, best to leave it there, as a new boot will tear quickly as well.
The original question was about the clutch arm under the car at the bellhousing. There is no boot at this location.
