Electric fuel pump replacement
Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Cornelis: The 450S Maserati uses two FISPA Electric pumps. I know because I restored the car. It also has one MONA MECHANICAL pump, not electric as you have illustrated. The race cars used the MONA MECHANICAL pumps and usually drove them off of the front cover gear train or, in the case of some Ferraris, the front of the camshaft sprocket. I will be happy to provide you photos if you would like to see the Maserati factory installation.
Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Cornelis: One additional point of clarification on the Maserati 450S fuel system. The engine driven pumps are also known as FIMAC pumps, though Maserati refers to them as MONA units.
Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Steve,
Thanks for the invitation but with the wait for parts and only one day a week to work on the car, I don't think I'll have everything finished in time. Hopefully I'll be making the rounds with the 330 next year!

"Our" Fispa elect pump was first seen in the 1956 catalog.
Maserati as a poor company, used always the new old stock over the years first.
that make me wonder hat those pumps were used in the early 450S cars.
Even during the early race years several cars were powered by Chevy engines and lost most also the aux. parts

P.S.
You were refering to 4504 or 4509 I suppose

Cornelis: While I do not wish to get into an argument about 450S Maserati's, I am also not interested in having incorrect information associated with my name. So lets clarify this:
1. Attached is a photo of one of the pages of the Maserati factory data sheets for 450S #4504. I have circled on the sheet where the car was equiped with two FISPA electric pumps and one MONA mechanical pump.
2. Also attached is a photo of the cockpit of #4504 showing the two FISPA pumps installed on their factory bracketing beside the driver's seat. (Nobody ever said these cars were safe).
3. Obviously, I restored #4504. It is the least raced, in period, of the 450S's. It also was entirely unmodified mechanically before the restoration, having sat since 1960.
4. 450S Maserati's were built from the fall of 1956 thru January 1958 not thru 1962. #4510 was completed on January 28, 1958. #4501/4512, the Zagato Berlinetta, was revised into Berlinetta form between May and August of 1958. No 450S's were constructed after that date.

Re: Electric fuel pump replacement
Hudson,
We don't care whether it's "done" or not (I mean, when is it ever?), but if it's not running, bring yourself anyway, if you can.
It's just a low key gathering, and only the Fiats are judged (by themselves). Free if you bring something on wheels, $5 to just show your face. Come when you want, leave when you want, and kids are welcome. Benefits Special Olympics.
Now, back to fuel pumps...

Dyke,
thank you so much for you'e time and prof. answers on this side.
You will be here for us hobbiest "the last intance"
you are of course Absolutly right about the 450S CAR production 1956-58.
I was however more focused on the produced 450S ENGINES.
between1959 and 1962 at least 6 other 450S V8 units were build.
three of those were used in US road racing replacing org V8 engines.
twice in typo 54 (4506 and 4508) one in an Tipo151 ch 151.004
I drove around 1999/2000 after an invitation such a car.
I had however an unit of 6458cc (110mm and 85mm) in it (an monster).
those engines were produced between 1962 and 1965 for marine competition in Italy only.
and were painted BLUE .
Probebly to protect agains saltwater
Thanks again
nice weekend
Cornelis
P.S.
feel free to correct me.
