Re: Our friends in the path of Sandy
I talked to Dempsey tonight; they just got a lot of rain, no damage to either the house or his wife's shop on Chincoteague.
In Arlington, I had basement seepage, ripped out about 150sf of carpet; never lost power.

Re: Our friends in the path of Sandy
Hi All,
I'm glad to hear that everyone is OK. We made it though. Various family members lost power from 12 hours - 11 days but not much other damage - except my sister-in-law who has a house at Normady Beach on the Jersey shore. That house is still standing but will need a lot of work to bring back (single story with salt water line one foot higher than the floor). It will need less work than the house whose bathtub ended up in my sister-in-law's front yard; we don't yet know which destroyed house its from. I'm trying to convince her to keep the tub and use it as a planter - an interest reminder of Sandy. The Jersey shore really is shades of Katrina.
Regards to all,
Art S.
PS. Tom, did my car survive the storm?

yes; it will take a 7000' storm surge to get me in Santa Fe . . .Yale wrote:Bryan

Advise some caution - remember the sea shells on top of Lone Tree Mesa at 9,700 feet...yes; it will take a 7000' storm surge to get me in Santa Fe . . .

Peter,
I have confidence that if the tree was damaged, Francois and Tom can repair it or find an appropriate OE replacement!

Re: Our friends in the path of Sandy
Hi everyone,
Sorry I am late reponding to this thread but I was hospitalized during the storm. Fortuntely for my wife nerves there was no damage and we never lost power. I am back at work on a half-day basis recovering from what was eventually diagnosed as an autoimmune problem - my immune system went into overdrive and started fighting my body. I am on Prednisone to help my body reboot itself and although feeling much better I lost 15 lbs. and am weak as a kitten. Hopefully meetings with the docs this week will say I can begin reducing the medication and start a modest rehab program to get my strength and stamina back. I was told my illness can hit anyone over 50, and the docs do not know why - could be genetic, atmospheric, stress-related, who knows. Fortunately it is curable.
I did take the C/4 out for a spin this past Sunday for it's first run in over a month and it made me feel wonderful. Car ran like a top. Much better than drugs!
Cheers,
Sam

Re: Our friends in the path of Sandy
good lord, Sam; that's awful! And Prednisone is no picnic, either, so I hope they get you off that asap once you are re-booted.
the C/4 is good medicine. . .
