Inner tube hardware - cones, nuts, and caps

I am requesting some information on the use of this hardware. Actually some written period documentation, in Italian or English, dated 1950 thru 1968. Use of this hardware was common practice in that era to provide either protection or dress up for Borrani, Campagnolo, or other type rims. I realize Parker Hall offers these parts for sale, Kilimanjaro Designs.

I now have 5 Borrani wheels (RW3831) from a 1966 Lamborghini 350GT and have found the following stem protector.
The Borrani wheel appears to have a recess to fit this protector in place.
Beadblasted the steel cone, cell phone photo.
brass knurled nut shows more bevel on this side.
steel cone basic dimensions
large OD - 18mm
small OD 12.75mm
hole ID - 8mm
taper length - 10mm
height overall - 16mm, but cut away on one side

It would seem logical that this stem system would effect Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini equally as they all used Borrani rims on certain models......but this carries to other wheel brands as well.
Can anyone help as to period documentation on this stupid detail.

here is the tube stem sticking out of the Borrani rim. This system fits this rubber tube stem perfectly.
note recess around stem hole.

Also these wheel tube stem systems seem to be most correct when used with <B> valve stem caps.
These caps are stamped MADE IN ITALY II <B>IIII.
The vertical striations might be tool holding marks

There appears to be a manufacture date 9/65/
Is this date stamp a common find on Borrani rims?

its stamped- thedate- on the inside when not polisched away.

Most Ferrari Borranis have the shorter wheel centres like the RW3526
The centres are designated 42RC (I assume C= Corto).
The RW3264 are for the 250 Boano , S1 PF (& 750 Monza) and the centres are designated 42R, slightly longer.
S2 PF Coupe etc which should take the 42RC centres.
Please check you have 3 turns of the nut before it is tight. When not you should discuss the possibilities.

Thanks CB, Less than 3 turns must be too few turns to hold adequately. I will check. These wheels are on Rudge 42 Borrani hubs. The design of the alloy wheel rim, with a recess machined in the tube stem hole, leads me to believe these Borrani wheels were designed with this cone sleeve to be used. I am searching for any period documents around this item/system.

What tube is being used in Borrani wheels for Ferrari applications? I don't find a stem protector type tube stem being offered any more, TR4 stem or such.
I am guessing a TR13 stem would fit okay and would allow fabrication of false stem protector for visual correct....but what are the Ferrari on display at shows using for this?

internet search turned up a source for tube stem covers, 250 era, at Motion Products.

The tube stems, that these MPI covers are used on, are not clear to me.
TR13 doesn't look like they will fit.
So what tubes are used?

here is a wheel that maybe can be identified, and appears using the MPI product, or maybe home made equal?

It appears that the only metal stem tubes of any quality are produced by Waymaster. The Waymaster metal stem is longer than a vintage stem and a larger diameter in the root threads....so this requires a longer stem cover............and gives a slightly odd appearance, extended length, to this whole vintage goofy tire tube system.
Looks like there would be a market for correct vintage appearing, high quality tubes for use on Borrani equipped vintage sports cars using $600 tyres

Waymaster tube photo explaining tube stem I am identifying.
Are there other tube choices out there?
I have a 200mph Ebay tube on order with a TR13 stem for only $10.....just for trial fitting/fabricating stem cover with a TR13 stem.

I wrote MPI and asked what stem TR? this stem cover kit was designed for?
They replied TR13.
TR13 being the standard, skinny stem found on most automotive tube today.

Now that I look again, my only objection to this stem cover kit is the length of the tapered cover..........too long.
But I think the tube stem could be bushed/spaced inside the rim to shorten adequately, there by allowing a shorter cover.
but that is just my quick thought.

Hi Greg( Carello)
A bitt late this reaction, but after cleaning my Borrani room this morning to find some spinners
I found an old GTE , 400SA ,250GT cabrio set of Borrani RW3591 these were produced till 1962 probably from #3737 ?
these were having also you're valve stem protectors.I never mentioned them before.
the tires are from 1962(mot) so these could have been fitted from new ,also on Ferrrari`s and not exclusive for Lambo`s
how ever the wheels don´t show these " milled stage" can´t translate it better.
So the Ferrari community 250GT can search for those to" upgrade"
