Is Lenny Benson a Broker?

Post by Tom Wilson »

A couple of people have contacted me over the last year about Lenny Benson and his quest to buy GTEs. He has called the owners, their families and their friends. He could be just a very aggressive buyer looking for a barn find, but he does sound like a broker. Does anybody know one way or another?

Greetings… I've had 3-4 calls from him in the last week which I left unanswered. I've had several in the past few years as well. Don't know if he is a broker but I suspect so.

Interesting. I just got a call from Lenny Benson from CT the other day. He started out saying he got my number from a fellow GTE owner after calling that guy from an old Ferrari Club Register. He said he was looking to buy a GTE and wanted to talk to me. I asked him how long he had been looking, and he said he had just started. I asked him if he had called the "usual suspects" for leads, and he said he didn't. I soon realized I was talking to a guy someone had asked me about several months ago. It seems Lenny called a this guy back in the summer trolling for cars. I asked him point blank if he was a broker because his name has come up with other people. He admitted he was looking for cars, and I ended the conversation pretty quickly after that. I called my friend that gave him my number, and he said he was tricked in to thinking this guy was legitimately looking to buy a GTE for himself. Be careful out there!

Someone's been repeatedly calling my parents asking about my cars if you can believe that. Mentioned the GT/E specifically. Might be this guy.

He called my office on Monday, said he had gotten my number from the Register. Represented himself as a private owner looking to buy his first Ferrari. After asking lots of questions about my car, he told me that he really wanted to buy a GTE, that he'd already spoken to Tom Wilson & would I be interested in selling. I must say, he was pretty insistent which should have made me realize something was fishy. As the song goes, "won't be fooled again"!!!

I do not recall ever talking to Lenny (though I do get a lot of calls from would be buyers) and I have not received any correspondence from him. I have only heard about him through other GTE owners. However, if we did talk, I would never give out a name of another owner, unless they had specifically told me that it was OK to do so. I like putting GTE owners together, but I make it a big point to preserve our privacy.

I just registered here yesterday, and was surprised to see a "Lenny Benson" thread.
It's apparently not just 250s he's after, he's been calling me for at least two years on my 330...

Welcome!

You'll never be lonely as long as you have vintage cars. The brokers will never leave you in peace.

I have gotten several calls over the last 3 years. If he is not a broker he acts as one.

Well, he's definitely not a private buyer from this survey. I've gotten several private emails reporting the same type of call or post card. BE CAREFUL!

Lenny called my office on Friday asking about my 330GTC. I was not in at the time and I did not call him back.

It is a different world out there today. My advice is to NEVER acknowledge you own a Ferrari to somebody who you do not know over the phone. I just tell the caller, they have the wrong person. I tell them I own a Toyota, and am not sure I have ever seen a Ferrari. Better to be safe than sorry.

Greetings... When I first talked to him several years ago, he got my name from a club roster.
