vht wrinkle paint

Post by michaelbalk330 »

just an update on VHT wrinkle paints- lot of forum discussion re different vendors ( wurth, vht, eastwood etc) . here are some actual pics
of my heat shield which I re-did yesterday. getting it clean and prepped was key. matches really well with the valve covers.
product went on great, just followed the instructions and kept it warm in the sun for about an hour.

Michael, did you preheat the pieces before shooting? Thanks.

john,
i did warm them up a bit with a heat gun, but the fact is because they are 2 pieces of aluminum sandwiched together with thin layer or air in the middle, they really didn't heat up that much. just warm.
the key was hanging them outside in the southern exposure atlanta sun in july.
for the first 15 -30 min I thought "this isn't going to work", and then suddenly the wrinkles popped up. you need to let them cure for 48 hours before installing, even though they feel dry. don't ask me how I know :)

Yeah, the wrinkle finish is very soft for a few days until it fully cures.

I did this recently with that same brand of paint and the result was okay, not as good as yours. I think I preheated mine too much before spraying it and the paint dried too fast.
