Clamps for the engine compartment

Post by enio45 »

Im preping a 330 GTC for the Cavillino show this Jan and was wondering if any of the current day
clamps (radiator, heater hoses) are acceptable for judging?

I find that the Chenney clamps are usually worn out and have the inability to provide a tight fit on the hose, usually the worm surface has been stressed over the yrs.

Im looking for another solution that is acceptable for judging.

Any advise what to use?

Ed: XK's Unlimited has new repro Cheney clamps. Some people say they do not seal as well as the originals, but so far, I have had no problems. If you are concerned, initially assemble everything with modern clamps, and after the hose is "settled" on the fitting, remove the modern clamp and install the Cheney.

Hi Ed,

A guy in Florida used to make these clamps and they were not very good with very little clamping force. The new ones XKs Unlimited are making are much better. They may not clamp as well as a modern clamp, but these may work fine. If you have problems follow Dyke's advice and clamp the hose down with a modern clamp until it takes a "set" and replace it with a reproduction Cheney.

Good luck, and see you in Florida!

thanks for the response - - i have used the XK clamps on my customers flat floor jag and they seem to work well.

question - they are slightly different and not cad plated but zinc plated.

judging wise - would i be subject to deductions??
