RIP Ted Rutlands & Wayne Obry

Post by Tom Wilson »

We lost two big friends of the Ferrari world this week. I have met both men many times over the years and have done business with Ted more than once. Their knowledge of our cars was deep and can not be replaced. These men contributed a lot to our hobby and will be missed.

On a non-car note, we also lost Keith Emerson yesterday. Those of us who grew up on Progressive Rock in the 70's will be playing ELP on full rotation this weekend...

The irony is that Wayne purchased Ted's business a few weeks ago. While he may not have intended to keep it for a long term operation, all this could cause major disruptions in the operations. We all knew of Ted's long term cancer battle, but Wayne went in for a "routine" procedure on Friday and died on the operating table.

Sad news,

Both have been helpful to me in the past.

Wayne Obry and two partners founded Motion Products in Neenah, WI about 30 years ago. They are one of the premier Ferrari restoration shops in the world. They also manufacture a number of special Ferrari related parts.

Waaa- they were both in the office here a few weeks ago while Ted introduced Wayne to us here. Going to be a complicated thing to sort out... Great sympathies to all the families and friends involved.

I hadn't been aware of Ted's illness and was shocked when I saw him in Monterey. Both were good guys who made a significant contribution to making it easier to keep our cars on the road. And both of them will be missed.

A very sad day. Ted and I met when I was first starting out in the Ferrari world. I had called FAF looking for some Type L Dino parts. They told me the the Dino was not a real Ferrari and to call Ted. From that point on, Ted and I enjoyed over 30 years of doing business together. He truly was the pioneer in developing the aftermarket Ferrari parts business as we know it today. His knowledge and passion for the mark was impressive. A tremendous loss to the Ferrari community...RIP

I did not know Wayne personally, but only of his reputation. RIP
