250 seat/ball bearings

At present my front seats are very hard to adjust for fore and aft. I recall in the past there being some ball bearings between the mounting plate and the chair rail to reduce friction and ease adjustment. Can somebody shed some light on this - size, number of bearings ?

I don't know if it's the same as the 250, but on my 330 GT there were 4 ball bearings in each rail. I don't remember the specifics, but from my notes, the bearings were difficult to see until I removed the allen bolts on the seat rail. The bearings can be tapped into place if they fall out. I think I used a long 3/8" socket extension to tap it into place -- it took two taps, one to get into the rail and another to get it pas the bolt access hole). They are easy to lose, so I measured one with calipers in case I ever needed a replacement. I think it measured 13.55mm if I'm reading the dial correctly (I now have a set of digital calipers, which is a million times easier to read).

13mm is large almost half inch, don't think this is correct. As I recall they were about 3/16 or so. Brought one to Ace hardware and found one that was close enough for the rails.

There are a few sizes of bearings depending on the style of seat slider you have! The GTEs have two designs of sliders with the early cars having rubber covered steel rollers inside the rails. The later GTEs (the ones with the recliner mechanisms) I believe have ball bearings. I also seem to recall 330s have small bearings that are trapped in the rails as well. Lots of choices.

Here's a seat track from a 330. I will have to see if this is the same as a late 250GTE, but you can see how the center ball bearings, that are trapped in the rail, were creating a groove in the steel rail. I know 330s also have a smaller bearing that supports the side rails.

My seats are early type - do you think I'll have to machine new ones? Can somebody give dimensions of early roller type please?

I ended up McGyvering the unobtanium rubber bit in the middle by using multible strands of elastic bands impregnated with rubber silicone - works great!
