330 GT Circolare Tecnica

Post by 330GT »

I just purchased a batch of the Circolare Tecnica (technical bulletin) issued by Ferrari for the 330 GT model. These were mainly issued during the production years, with a couple being later.

I gleaned some information that I never knew:

1. The blue and red dots on the hot water dash control weren't on the cars prior to 6293. I wonder how many Concours judges are aware of this (none I bet).

2. Ferrari in June 11, 1964, obviously realizing that the radiator and fan system were inadequate in some driving situations, suggested the three blade fan on the electric auxiliary fan be replaced with a six blade fan. In addition, to remove the thermostat which should only be fitted during the winter.

3. For early cars without any console, evidently Pininfarina made a radio shelf that could be ordered directly from PF.

4. A bulletin dated October 11, 1964 had changes to the 40 DCZ/6 carburetor for the needle valve and accelerator pump drain hole. For cars already sold, the changes could be made if the customer wasn't satisfied with the original settings. However, it does not say how these changes affected the cars operation.

5. Mobilube 46 oil was recommended for the limited slip differential installed in cars with 5 speed transmissions.

6. In light of the continual overheating issues, starting with 9059, twin electric fans where installed, even on cars w/o air conditioning. Prior to that, twin fans were only on cars ordered with A/C.

7. Starting with 9083, Ferrari changed from the black painted Dunlop brake booster to the gold cad plated Bonaldi booster. This booster was also fitted to 9001, 9005 and 9043.

8. A bulletin dated January 12, 1967, stated that some cars could be equipped with RIV shocks. I can just see some owner with a car at a FCA National Concours arguing with the judges that the RIV shocks were original. When I have time, I'll look at the build sheets I have for cars completed in 1967 and see if any do mention RIV shocks.

9. Cars equipped with power steering could have the welding on the studs holding the idler lever support crack if the right front wheel was hit in an accident.

Some of these bulletins referenced drawings, which unfortunately, were not part of what I received.

There were a lot of changes with the 330 GT production to align it with the introduction of the GTC. The most major was the 2 mount engine block rather than the 4 mount one.
