Hood supports

Post by Wrigs2019 »

Im the process of restoring my hood. I would like to address the “hood supports” not sure what the correct name for them is. It looks like they have a hard plastic that is mounted on them where they touch. I assume this is to prevent them from rubbing. Does anyone know what material this is and where I could find replacements? Also any advice on adhesive for hood pad? I was going to use 3M 8090 trim adhesive.

I use electrical heat shrink tubing for the hood torsion springs. You can buy it in long rolls, slide it one the springs, and shrink them with in place with a heat gun.

I wouldn't put the hood pad on until after paint, but spray on contact cement is what to use. Spray both surfaces, let dry, and stick together. You have one shot to get it right!

Ok thanks, I’ll try the heat shrink tubing. Hood pad from HVL looks great.

IMO...and experience.........related to the glue - i would go to an upholstry shop and buy or have them spray the commercial glue they use on the hood and pad. The "out of the can" stuff - 3M and others, work OK, but don't stand up to the continued heat, thus causing the hood pad to unglue itself.....
