Enlarging Valves

Post by BobA »

I am in the process of having a machine shop replace my valves, valve seats and guides in my early GTE (2693) heads and thought it might be feasible to increase the size to the later specs. I will reuse the same cams. Does anyone have experience with this? I will probably need to rejet the carbs for modern gasoline anyway.

Bob: No reason not to do this. You are spending the money anyway, free horsepower. However, do not expect large gains, maybe 5-7 bhp.

Thanks Dyke: just wondering if there is a downside of doing this. Do not want to increase the chance of new problems.

Bob: Make sure the larger valves will not hit the pistons. You may have to machine larger diameter valve pockets in the top of the pistons.
