1967 330 GTC - Clutch helper spring

Post by Fasthound330 »

330 GTC owners -

Does your car have helper spring #33? If so, where does it attach to the car (I know where it attaches to the pedal cluster)? Where is the anchor point. I have the spring, but nowhere to anchor it to the car? If your car has this huge spring installed, could you take some photos of the under dash area where the spring attaches, please?

I’m really scratching my head on this one as my car didn't arrive with that spring and I see nowhere it can attach to the body. I bought the spring based on the attached exploded view only to find nowhere to anchor it when I looked under the dash.

Thanks,
Kevin

There is a horizontal hole in the dash panel above the pedals where the "adjuster #34,35 goes through the panel. Look for the "adjuster", it might still be there. All the cars had them. Lots have broken the springs by now. A real PITA to install, takes lots of pressure to stretch the spring.

Thanks, but I can’t find the hole or the adjuster.

I know it’s a pain to crawl under there, but a picture of the hole location and adjuster would be helpful. I’ll pay for the Ibuprofen, LOL.

Hang on! I think I found it!!!

The bracket is on the other side of the vertical panel, isn’t it? There’s a rectangular hole in the lower vertical portion of the dash, right?

Is this where the adjuster would go??

Sold my GTC years ago, but looks plausible. The hole should provide a reasonably straight "pull" for the spring as the pedal is pushed in. The spring acts as an over-center assist.
