Saw this on FChat. The 500 Mondial seems like a very interesting restoration.

I met Walter Medlin years ago and it's a good story.

The stories about his collection of cars in Orlando and how the hurricane blew the roof off his building exposing his secret collection was legend, and I wanted to meet him in person. His brother was in touch with me through the website and shared stories of the old days in the 70s when they used to drive their Ferraris to the National meets. Francois knew them back in the day.

I asked Dennis to share Walter's number with me and cold called him. I asked him if we could meet for a coffee or something while I was in town. A little taken aback at my forwardness, he still agreed to meet me at a Dennys in Orlando. (for non-Americans, Dennys is a chain of cheap diners offering breakfast all day). After breaking the ice with Walter, we talked about Ferraris, and I told him about my working with Francois, and conversation flowed. We chatted for over an hour and at the end of it he explained he was out of collecting Ferraris and had moved most of the cars out of Orlando to Indiana, but was into land speed runs out in Bonneville. He invited me out to see them run the next time they were out there, and I took him up on his offer years later.

The stories about Walter were legendary, but I was glad to have met him in person. We reconnected after hearing about the RM auctions and hope we'll see each other again in Monterey!
