Lurker intro: need reality check

Yeah I did have a wheel bearing issue. Luckally it was not on a long trip. I could feel that there was a difference in the steering wheel feel and checked to see if there was something rubbing against the front wheels. There wasn't, the mec took the wheels off to check and low and behold... Both sides were bad, replaced both inner and outer bearings, I think they were $150 per set from GT Car parts.

bluecat49 - Thanks for the reference. The 330 Registry has been on my browser's menu bar for a while. If not for this site and Kerry's I doubt I ever would have seriously considered owning a Ferrari...

Tom - I agree wholeheartedly about EBay auctions for cars. Call me old fashioned but I'd actually like to see the car I'm buying in person, as well as having an experienced mechanic inspect it, before purchase.

Tony - Tried your office, but you were already out. Will try again when you get back from Japan.

Ciao,

I catch up late perhaps, but when I read about wanting a classical Ferrari for daily driving, I feel I must mention the 456 GT(A). A modern Ferrari, but in a classical fashion. Of course not a 60´s feeling, but sure a real Ferrari feeling. Not to much electronics, good AC, fabulous engine and sound and a reasonable milage/km. as well. What are youre thoughts?

Romeo, Oh, Romeo! If I could get one right now for $45-50K I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, in the US, they are about $65-100K. I have started to think about a more modern Ferrari to keep my V12 company....A 348?

Romeo - I agree with lukek for the most part. At $45-50K I would be looking at 456 GTs. However, I'm looking for a hobby as well. I think there's a lot of maintenance that I can do on a 330 myself. I doubt the same is true for a 456. Then there's that 60's feeling...

......with ultra modern exotic cars everything seems to be modular, and every module is around $5K. It is the same when you first dive into parenthood. You soon learn that everything lasts for 6 months and costs $500.
I do draw the (comfort) line at late 80s, or early 90s technology. I could sort of figure out the Bosch stuff on my GTV6, but I would be scared to open up any cambiocorsa, active suspension, or abs stuff. Conversely, If I were to find an 02 Maser coupe for $45, well, I might not be as concerned.
I will stop dreaming and get back to work.

PS. I did have a productive weekend, where I straightened out my 250 GTE grill. Just took it apart (6mm), and pounded on the aluminum through a rag with a rubber mallet. It came out OK. I have also polished it with this blue metal cleaner. It even brought the shine back to the horsie !

It is Blue Magic Metal Polish, by Blue Magic Inc. Got it at my local Kragens, Auto Zone, or whomever bought the chain last...
