PPI mechanic, Alabama or Southern CA

Post by jcwconsult »

I am looking at two 365 GT 2+2 's, one in Birmingham, Alabama and the other in Southern California. Does anyone have a recommendation for a qualified PPI inspector in either area?

I would want both a good body inspection and a mechanical inspection, including compression and leakdown tests.

I would appreciate any thoughts on qualified mechanics/experts.

Regards,

I once had a PPI done at Black Horse Motors in LA. It was for a GTC4 I was looking at. They did the compression, charged a reasonable rate...

Jim: The two shops in Southern Ca. I would trust are Grand Touring Classics owned by Norbert Hofer or Francorchamps owned by Rod Drew. As for shops in Alabama I would look up members in the FCA Alabama area from the web site.Best of luck! p.s.take your time and find a great one.

Jim, Go to www.Ferrarichat.com, scroll down to South Central USA section, click through and see approx thread #7, and they have some posts that include a number of shops throughout Alabama. To respond or query you might have to "join" the site. Good luck, LJH

During my car search in 2002 I had a conversation with Norbert Hofer in regard to a 330 2+2 he had on consignment. Very pleasant and knowledgeable guy, patient with my Ferrari newbie questions, said he would be glad to perform PPI on any car I brought in. I would certainly contact him again if the need arose.

If you still need the one in Birmingham checked out, please let me know. My mechanic is tied up this week picking up our new Mondial from the DC area, but may have time to go look sometime in the next two weeks. I can put the two of you in touch if you want.

My parents live just outside of Birmingham, but it's been about 30 years since my dad checked compression on an engine. About the time he started a family and got rid of his BMW 2002...
