I am starting on my 365 GT4 2+2. I want to pull the engine befor the car goes to the body shop, and perform a timing chain service. I spied the engine stands in the resto tips section. Ian Levy sent some nice photos of his late model stand (my GT4 has the same motor), however the photos did not give any dimensions. The dimensions that I would be interested in would be the space required between the engine mount flanges, and the angles of the engine mount flanges, plus the bolt pattern for the engine mount flanges. It appears that the flanges are not perpendicular to the floor. I would prefer to build the stand befor I pull the motor. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help.

Engine Stand Question
stand
Rick-
I have recently constructed just such an Engine Stand
see http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/fest055
check these out for a general idea-
relitavely straight forward
also see http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... mber=32916
this is the engine stand I used (2 req'd)
the distance between the 2 uprights
is the 'stock' dimension when bolting 2 stands together
this yields enough space to rotate the Engine 360°
(provided the Timing Case is OFF)
you are correct, the Tubes that support the Engine
need to be made horizontal
the uprights were cut off at 90°
and 2" ID Tubing welded on
(lucky for me the guy 2 Shops down does metal fab)
I used 2" OD Tubing for the Engine Supports
(18" long I think) with 3/8" Plate welded on one end
with holes drilled to match Motor Mount
(actually I gave fabber the Motor Mount to use as pattern)
I still have a Drawing around somewhere
I will dig it out tomorrow
I will provide any more details you may need
I have a dig it al camera
so I can send you some pics of my stand iff'n you need

To solve the alignment of the engine tubes, I changed the bottom support between the two stands to have a bend in it. This aligned the vertical supports so they were plumb, thus the tubes were then parallel with each other.
You can see how I did it on:

Engine Stand Question
Hello Ric
Any questions I can answer please mail me direct
I have all the dimensions & would be happy to provide tehm
You can build the stand before reoving the engine but do NOT drill the mouning plates until you have the engine mountings to use as a template
I sent all to Andrew (AKA Fest) details to Fest so if you stick to his measurements you will be OK
If I can be of help please let me know
Good luck
