Reverse Lock-out

Post by xs10shl »

I did a search on this but couldn't find anything - so I'll post the question:

Some older Ferraris have reverse where 1st is on modern cars (Daytonas, 330 GTC/S, for example). This is a potential problem for me, as I have an annoying habit of mindlessly cycling through the gears when sitting at a stop light. Last week, I inadvertently attempted to shift into reverse when at a stop sign - thankfully, a slight crunching sound quickly informed me of my mental lapse.

I figured I'd better implement a reverse lock-out before I drop the tranny. I'd like the solution to to be cheap and reversable, so as not to permanently damage the beautiful polished shift gate on the car.

Is there anyone as brain dead as me who has come up with an inexpensive solution for implementing a reverse lockout on the late 60s cars?

I've had basically the same problem: Trying to shift into fifth in my 4-speed + OD 330. Reverse is where fifth should be.

There was a long thread not long ago this summer that discussed installing a shift lever gate on cars that don't have it -- lots of good ideas.
