365 GT 2+2 - Gas

Post by Boxer42 »

What type of gas do you normally use in a 365 GT 2+2 ? I am in an area where leaded gas is not available. Thanks for the help.

I use unleaded premium, and have used it for years with no problems. Back before leaded gas was outlawed, I used to run a mix of leaded regular and unleaded premium.

I think destruction of valve seats and guides from the lack of lead in the fuel was greatly exaggerated. I'm not trying to start a discussion, but this topic has been over worked on many other websites, and forums. Since most of this discussion centered aroung cast iron heads, Ferraris don't apply. The materials Ferrari used on early cars for guides was in fact inferior, but this was not due to the lack of lead in the gas.

Keeping octane up is more important than anything else, so there is no doubt in using the highest pump gas available.

I have followed this topic over the years and this is my understanding: If your valve guides are original, they were exposed to leaded fuel years ago, and this exposure is more than adequate lubrication for the life of the guides. Thus, using unleaded premium is ok for untouched engines, and, of course, the newer guides used in rebuilt engines do not need lead at all.
