WTB; upper radiator to engine pipe

Post by lukek »

Just by miracle....does anyone have the upper radiator to engine pipe? I am told by a gury that they all rust out, so this is a long shot, and mine is fixable, but NOS item would be way better, or even a good used one.

semi gloss vs. semi flat

Post by lukek »

PM me the number, please !
BTW, I looked at Tom's notes on the site about paining the radiator. He states not to paint it too thick, and to use semi-gloss black.
Off I go to my local Auto Zone. Seemed easy. But...right there on the shelf they had semi-gloss and semi-flat blacks. Are those exactly the same? Is semi-flat flatter than semi-gloss? It was like a Seinfeld episode. I bought both and semi-gloss seemed closer...

thx

Eastwood (http://www.eastwood.com/shopping/produc ... d=radiator) has a radiator paint that they claim leaves a thin coat that doesn't affect heat transfer. I used it on my 240Z and 330 GT radiators.

Hi Luke,

If you're going to have this pipe made up, you may consider ceramic coating it, or something to protect it from corrosion. If you think about it, with an aluminum block and heads, and a brass radiator, that steel pipe becomes the sacrafical annode in the cooling system. Any chemists out there want to confirm this?

As I mentioned in a previous thread, placing a magnesium sacrificial anode in the radiator fill spout should protect the sysem, including brass, aluminum and iron.

Luke,
We have Dennis Etchevary at Norman Racing in Berkeley make those water pipes for us all the time. Email me for his phone number or call me at Patrick Ottis. After the new pipe is made, we have it plated using electroless nickel.

I have a favorite ceramic coating shop in the Seattle area. They do parts by mail/UPS no prob. Performance Coatings

Here is a couple of pictures (before and after)of a recent cooling system component I had done by them. They said it offers a 50% increased resistance corrosion on aluminum. I took that with a grain of salt - but hey, they do good work for not much money. So far, I've been happy with their stuff.

As Jim also noted, a sacrificial anode would be a smart idea and prevent your valuable parts from becoming the sacrifical anode. (Thanks for the reminder - have to remember to do that myself!)
