Modified ? 365 GT 2+2

Post by Boxer42 »

There is a 365 GT 2+2 for sale at http://www.beverlyhillsclassiccars.com/ and further information can be found at http://www.dupontregistry.com/search/sr ... essionkey=. The SN is 11061. It looks like the front end has been modified with the bumper removed and driving lights added. Could this be original  ? I know that a couple of 275 GTB's were produced without front bumpers ?

my guess is that it was 'nosed'
(i.e. crashed)
and the new nose added at that point
(along with that 'resale red' paint)

if it was really a 'speciale' one-off
then the ad (and price) would reflect this
it would seem that at this point
all of the unique cars have been identifed
(and accounted for)
long ago

but maybe, just maybe, you are on to something?
is this going to be 'one that got away'?

Absolutely, I am not going to touch it. The old rule number one, if you have questions and there are no answers walk away quickly. This would seem to apply perfectly to this case.

The tail lights are also non-standard for a 365 2+2 (there should be a chrome backplate). Curious... seems like it could have been a factory or period customization, or perhaps it was done when the car was restored?

I agree with many of the cautions mentioned here. Nonetheless, I have sent to them for more information -- as I am still looking for a decent 365 to drive. I'd love the $82,000 one at Autosport Designs, but cannot afford it. I need to find a car in the $50,000-$low60,000 range.
Questions for anyone who cares to answer.
1. If the bodywork was original, a factory speciale, how should that affect the value? Up? Down? No difference?
2. If done later for the owner's preference, but not a major accident, how should that affect the value?
3. The Dupont Registry link won't work for me, is there another way to access that information -or is a short summary of what was there possible?
4. Does anyone have more information from other sources about this particular car?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Man that is one hot looking 365GT 2+2 ... really racy looking. If the history pans out acceptable I'd be buying it ... if I was in the market.

Have you tried the Beverly Hill Classic Car Sste directly ? Also you might check with FML to see if they have any historic data on the car.

Actually, I respectfully disagree with the cautions mentioned. I think this redesign adds a freshness and agressiveness that the stock 365 lacks. These are similar mods that I was thinking of doing to my 365 2+2, even though it has not been whacked. I think the car looks better w/o the heavy front bumpers, and the stock rear lights are the product of brain-dead design. (IMHO). And lets face it - you'll never be invited to, or win a major concours, with a 365 2+2 (unless you're willing to spend $150K restoring it), so I say "just have fun with it!"

IMHO, this particular customization is really not reason enough to stay away from this $45,000 Ferrari 365 2+2, unless you don't like the design, or are worried about reselling it quickly. Now, if it had a tired engine - that would be a darned good reason to stay away.

Just my .02.

I kind of like the way it looks too. Bumpers always seem to break up the lines of any car in front, Lussos being the exceptions, but those don't really protect you from anything!

If you're not concerned with resale, this could be nice car, provided everything else checks out. The supply of affordable Vintage V-12 cars is getting tighter!

If someone on the board got it, congratulations. Assuming the '94 restoration info is true, it's a lot of car for the money.
