I was surfing the web for Ferraris (I know, I know, I already have one, but it's an addiction) and I came across these ads that might be worth looking into:
FERRARI: 1967 330 2+2, red/black, 5-spd, restored
Borranis, very nice car with the exception of the right cylinder head dropped a valve, engine partially disassembled, $26,500. Fred Petroske, 315-649-2861, FAX: 315-649-4100, NY; e-mail: petroske@gisco.net
The questions I would have is how bad is the engine? Is the piston bore scored? What about the piston? THe head? These cars are selling around $35-50K so it leaves you with a small margin of error to fix it. Do you feel lucky?
FERRARI: 1961 250 2+2, s/n 2297, 5 time FCA Class winner, very original car, $45,000. PH: 440-322-8167, OH.
I heard this OH car was a nice car, but why hasn't it sold yet??
FERRARI: 1961 250 GTE, s/n 2171, red/black, US model, one owner 27 years, nice, unrestored, $30,000 firm. 423-842-4352, TN; pbetbeze@aol.com
This is the first time I've heard of this car.
FERRARI: 1967 330 GT, white/white, ps, a/c, 52,000 miles, service records, originally owned by Garner Cattle Ranch, San Bernardino, outstanding driver, priced to sell, $35,000. PH:512-633-1105, TX.
If thsi TX car is mechanically sound, it could be a good deal.
Happy hunting!

Hi Tom,
Here are some pictures of the 330 with the dropped valve:

The pictures are dark, but the car does look quite clean except for the obvious.

Hi Jonathon,
Besides fixing the dropped valve, which ain't cheap, you've got to ask why this happend in the first place? Did a keeper let go? Were inferior valves installed previously to have one fail and others will follow? What kind of shape was the motor in before it dropped a valve? If it was an easy fix, the shop that has this car would have fixed it, and sold the car for $35-40K easily. $10K might not fix this engine.
