air conditioning

Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket air conditioning systems in a 330 2+2 or similar Ferrari? Mid-August in Dallas has caused me to give this idea some thought.

The site www.project33.com does. He is installing airconditioning in his 1933 highboy car he is building.

Thus if you do not want to purchase the CORRECT components that Ferrari originally would have used then, Scooter (the site owner) will be able to help you with what and where to purchase the required components.

A few years ago I fitted air con to a black 911 with total black interior that got  unbearably hot even in Manchester U.K. Itwas easy to get all the components as many people that raced 911 Turbos stripped out the air con because of the weight.
IF you wanted to  keep your car original  fitting the system might be the least of the problems but the cost of sourcing & then purchasing every single compoonent might be prohibitive-on top of the installation costs
I personally would not fit  aftermarket non Ferrari air con to such a great car

Good luck if you go for it

I have seen photos of an airconditioning unit Bill Harrah had fitted to his 500 Superfast (as he drove it mostly in the desert). I believe, if you have those collected magazine article books from Brooklands and etc. you can find a picture of the system he installed. Somehow it was in the trunk of the car with a blower blowing cool air thorugh a large vent in the package shelf.

You'd probably have to own a casino to be able to afford such a system but it looked pretty cool. Best Yale

try this place in so cal
www.iceac.com.
they make retrofit kits for german cars and others. the kits are real staight forward and I think if you are a little creative you can make the system look darn near original for a fraction of the cost.

The guy who has the 330 America for sale in Dallas told me about a company called vintage
air - vintageair.com - that sells do it yourself ac installation kits. I emailed them and they replied that they had never seen a Ferrari installation with their products, but didn't see a problem and offered to send me a catalog with full specs and scale drawings of the components. I think they are geared to 50's/60's Corvettes, Hot Rods, and muscle cars.
I don't have any problem in installing non-standard components in an older car, even a Ferrari, that will increase its reliability or comfort , as long as the installation is well engineered, inconspicuous and neat, and easy
to remove should a future owner wish to do so. A summer in Dallas, Texas will make you question your sanity for wanting to purchase
a 35 year old car with no air conditioning when the same money would buy a brand new Beemer with every gadget conceivable. Anyway, this is all just talk, since my 330 2+2 now exists only in the realm of imagination .

Thanks to you guys for the other ac links. I will
check them out - I'm going to need AC if I plan to use a future Ferrari for regular driving and continue to live in Texas.
