i am not familiar with the 330 America and earlier front seats, but all
the 330GT cars share the same style seats. on the lower side and front
edge of the seat bottom there is a ribbed silver color foil trim. this is very
banged up and unsightly on my car. (for those of you with a 330 body
parts book, this is item #6 on foglio 46/1). they look like metal, but they
are actually just an adhesive foil. mike dunn made a set for his incredibly
gorgeous 500 Superfast (same seats) he has all the tooling to get these
into production.
so can we get a show of hands and a show of support? how many out
there would be interested in buying this foil trim. he will only make the
stuff if there is a strong interest....

Michael Greenspan found a company that makes a very similar Mylar product that is very close to the original material. Considering the attention to detail Mike Dunn is known for, I'm sure his is a perfect match, but this stuff may be a lot cheaper.
Do you know how much Mr. Dunn will charge for an order? Michael Greenspan and I were thinking about ordering some of the similar material, and distributing it through this forum, but I haven't figured out how much it will cost yet. I'd be curious how much the cost difference would be between the correct stuff, and stuff that is close enough.

attention to detail and quality is certainly one of mike dunn's
hallmarks; when i asked him about this foil he said he was
VERY disappointed with how his turned out and had a hard time
finding a supplier of good quality material that would take the
proper shape and have a nice adhesive backing.
now don't everyone choke and gag together. Mike said for a
run of 6 the cost would be $200. each. i am sure that if we could get
enough of us together, the price would drop dramatically

When restoring our lower priced Ferraris like the 2+2s, spending $200 on seat foil may not be in the budget. The sample that I saw from Michael Greenspan is very close and will definitely be cheaper. If you plan on showing the car to knowlegeable judges at only Concourse events, I would go with Dunn. The rest of us may consider the cheaper alternative!
Hopefully Michael will chime in with some costs!

Seat foil
Please count me in, but I agree with Tom, given the location of these pieces on the seats and their near invisibility, cost is a factor. Michael Bayer 1967 330 GT # 9727
When Tom says that the material isn't perfect please keep in mind that is coming from someone who drove all over the place to get a damn mattress to match the "feeling" of the orginal foam in his seats. Not too many others that you know would have gone through that much trouble + having to carve it. That foil Michael found is fairly spot on, I bet most of the concours folks wouldn't know the difference.
By the way, I bought some oil vent tubes from Mike Dunn, $90 for the pair. It is so cool when you order something and when it comes it's like a beatuful time warp part, as opposed to a recreation that is the Disney version.

O.K. here's the deal. I spoke with Michael Greenspan, and he has an order in for the company that manufacturers the mylar foil. They have to make a special run of it, so they said it may take "about a month" which was a few weeks ago. Michael, Francois and I decided that the foil was very close to the original and worth having the company make a special order. When the stuff arrives, I'll post pictures, figure out how much we have, how much you'll need, and how much it'll cost. Stay tuned!
