Makes sense. Thanks Dyke!DWR46 wrote:Cory: The common tools were purchased in batches from local hardware suppliers. When the factory ran out of a batch of pliers, they either made a run to the supplier or sent out a request for bids. It is normal for these tools to have variances from car to car and year to year. Anybody who tells you that certain cars had specificly styled tools is not operating in reality. For Ferrari, what tools went in what bag was the LAST thing they cared about. However, you can reach some general conclusions as to style of tools, early cars that had pliers tended to have pliers painted all black, then they used pliers with black painted handles, later cars usually had all chrome, and very late cars began to see rubberized coated handles. Eventually, the factory began buying preassembled kits with tools imprinted with the Ferrari logo.

Re: Tools for the toolkit
Can someone tell me if the 19mm, crosshatched handle 250 pliers are supposed to be polished chrome or just flash plated? Thanks.

If you scroll down to "tool bag" topic (oct) Tom Wilson was contacted and he got a set of pliers, that he was missing, for his 250 from another viewer. You could send him a message and ask.John Vardanian wrote:Can someone tell me if the 19mm, crosshatched handle 250 pliers are supposed to be polished chrome or just flash plated? Thanks.

Re: Tools for the toolkit
The ones I got were not plated, but I believe that they should be flash plated, which is what I will do. I understand that too shiny can be a problem with judges.
Re: Tools for the toolkit
Thanks to all who have helped the tool kit has been started. I have been able to locate 3 of the 4 screwdrivers and one Beta no 55 wrench, the 16-17. The search continues. In my travels I did locate a grease gun and extension hose for a vintage Bentley should anyone need one. Thanks again for everyones help!
Re: Tools for the toolkit
Just updating the search. I have been able to locate tools and some Beta No. 55 wrenches from all of your leads. I have also accumulate some other wrenches and tools in my travels. I am looking for the following original toolkit items: Beta No. 55 wrench sizes 8/9, 10/11, 12/13, 21/23.
The 4mm, or smaller of the two, orange handled phillips screwdrivers (should have v 12000 on orange plastic handle)
The following I have seen on ebay for sale but would like to see if anyone here has them: pliers, oil filter wrench, 42mm hub puller, grease gun and flexible hose.
I do have the following that are extra to me: 2 wooden handled flathead screwdrivers, 6/7, 8/9 chrom-vanadium wrenches, 16/17, 18/19 of what I believe to be early comp wrenches (crom molobdeno) They were black oxide finish and someone polished them but the black oxide remained on the number engraving and name insert. 12/13, 20-22 cromo-vanadium wrenches. Pics are available.
Thank you in advance,
Cory

Re: Tools for the toolkit
190mm pliers is correct for most all vintage tool kits. most have the cross hatch design on the handles. most are chrome. the original chrome was a thin flash chrome, not the high quality triple chrome everyone wants on the cars trim.
i tried ordering flash chrome and the shop had no idea what i was talking about since everyone wants high quality chroming.
the repro pliers ive seen have a high quality chrome and present very well.
btw, i have several types of 190mm pliers to sell or trade. they are available as chromed or unchromed.

Re: Tools for the toolkit
Thru searching I have come up with extra tools and continue to search for others. Usual suspects have been explored and am posting what I am trying to locate and what I have to offer to trade in hopes of helping someone here.
Need the following originals:
42MM hub puller
grease gun and extension hose
filter wrench
riganti jack
Wrenches: (Beta Auto no 55) 8/9, 14/15, 18/19
(Beta No 55) 21/23
Extras looking to trade. 2 wooden handled screwdrivers, late 50's comp car wrenches.
Extra Beta wrenches:
(Beta No 55) 18/19
Gedore 10/11, 12/14
Beta No 55 12/14
The Gedore wrenches have "made in germany" stamped in them, not the later produced "made in India" markings.
It is my understanding that the late 330 kits moving into the 365's only had the Gedore 10/11, 12/14 or the rarer Beta No 55 10/11, 12/14 as part of their kits.
Thank You
Cory

Re: Tools for the toolkit
I also forgot to list some extra tool and jack bags that I have.
Black jack bag
Brown jack bag
Brown tool roll
The last 2 should really stay as a set as they have the same patina.
Thanks Cory
