Courtesy lights on a GTC
is there a source for these little torpedo like bulbs (2 on each side on my car)? My FLAPS didn't have any and there's no reference number on my bulbs.
GT Car Parts in Az didn't have any. thanx steve

Steve, try any VW parts houses, as they are common European style bulbs. Jim
Re: Courtesy lights on a GTC
They are called Festoon type bulbs, Porsche used them too, Stoddard Porsche Parts stock them, google Festoon, they come in different lengths too.

Be very careful the wattage on these bulbs. Too high wattage, and they'll melt the plastic lenses!

We can supply just about any 6 or 12 "euro" bulb from stock. See http://www.nlaparts.com/store/
Note, the bulb section is not complete but working on that section every day.
Normally, these festoon bulbs for the dome lights are 10 watts.
Give us a call 800-438-08119 M-F, 8 - 5 same time as LA.

Thanx Tom, that's how i got where I am now...burned lens...not easy to source either. Bought stuff from Stoddard years and years ago for my (sorely missed) '69 911E...one of those "squandered opportunities". s

Hello there
As an alternative you can get LED versions of Festoon bulbs nowadays that give you a brighter light and don't generate the heat so won't melt the lens. Don't know where you get them in the USA, but there are available in the UK from bettercarlighting.co.uk Haven't investigated the dash lights from them as yet, but would be a worthy update for night driving I think!
Merry Christmas to all!

Re: Courtesy lights on a GTC
I tried LED festoons (from superbrightleds.com) as an experiment and didn't like them. The were a bit more directional, though you can rotate them in the contacts to correct that, but the light was just too brilliant a white to look correct. They might be useful if somebody offers them in a more vintage-correct light color/temperature.

Re: Courtesy lights on a GTC
Hi Peter: Since they do not get very hot, you might try spraying the glass with a yellow to orange color spray paint. Before the cars came with color dash lights we would dip the bulb in an enamel to get he desired color
