Bumper insulators
Bumper insulators
I purchased insulators for the bumpers on my 1964 330gt and I am not sure if this is the correct one. The one on the right is the new one and on the left is one that came with the bumper.
I purchased the car with the bumpers off and this rubber was being kept in place by the bolt that went through it.I only have one of the old insulators. When I fit the bumper on the back and use the new rubbers there is a small gap between the bumper and insulator but if I use the one old rubber insulator it will not leave enough of a gap for another rubber to be installed.
Does anybody recognize the old one as correct or should I use the new ones. Also I only got one bolt for the bumper and it is obvious it was not original because it looks like 2 bolts welded together , does anybody know the length of the bolt I should use.
Thanks, Rob.

Re: Bumper insulators
Greetings... The shorter one on the right looks like the ones on my car, 5769. The small end should have a recess for a washer whilst the large end fits in the hole in the body. Later, I'll take one of the bolts out and let you know what size. Now I am going to take a nap after spending a great week end in Monterey.

Hi Rob
I too used the ones on the right in your picture on 5749

Re: Bumper insulators
Thanks for the input, if I could get the bolt and washer sizes that would be very helpful. My car is 5393 and we are in the paint prepping stages.
I have another mystery , in an old picture of my car it has a Ferrari shield and America emblems mounted next to the left side tail light .
The holes look original but I have not seen this on any other 330gt , would this have been something someone put on after it left the factory or is it possible it came with these from Maranello ? My car is early production , I think 17th one made and possibly one of the first in North America.

Re: Bumper insulators
This was added on after by an enthusiastic owner...
Re: Bumper insulators
Greetings... I've removed a rear bolt and it is 8mm by 45mm, threaded full length. The washer measures 35mm and there are 2, one on the inside of the trunk and one in a recess on the small side of the rubber insulator that goes agains the bumper bracket. There is also a steel sleeve inside the insulator that is 14mm outside diameter, about 10-11mm inside diameter, and 27mm long. This bushing prevents you from over tightening the bolt and pulling the bumper too close to the body.
Hope that helps, Tim

Re: Bumper insulators
Greetings... Also, the washers are about 2mm thick, thicker than a normal washer.

Re: Bumper insulators
Woah, you bought the Petroske Wicker Car, supposedly the Paris show car, but maybe not. Was the engine with it when you bought it?

Re: Bumper insulators
Thank you for the bolt and washer sizes, I didn't even realize there was a suppose to be a sleeve in there.
Yes I have the Petoske car and I did not get the original engine . I did speak to the lady that has my engine in her car, so it still exists .
I do have a correct engine to put in it that is about 60 numbers past my serial number.
Should I be convinced that this car did not come with that badge on the back ? Then someone did a very proper installation ...

In the Ferrari world, never say never, but how hard would it be to have a previous owner drill holes in the back panel to install a 330 America badge and have it look "factory?" SI 330s didn't come with exterior badging like many 2+2s, so from the evidence of the huge SF shield, I think a previous owner wanted to guild his car with any badge that he could get his hands on. Just saying...

Re: Bumper insulators
I guess the wicker covering the sides of the car should have been a hint. I am at the point to fill in the holes so I just wanted to be 100% that
I am doing the right thing.
I have another thing I wanted to bring up but I may be opening a big can of worms. What color to paint the car , it was Marrone or Brown . Not sure if it would be my first choice for a color I would pick on this car but Steve McQueens Lusso was the same color and it looks beautiful.
I cant find a lot of pictures of Ferrari's in this color but there have been some recent ones of the McQueen Lusso and it looks great . But there are a lot of really good colors of Ferrari's in 1964 , some great blues and greens.
The interior was redone by the previous owner in a light tan , opinions are appreciated.
Rob.

Re: Bumper insulators
I did not see any Marrone ones, the color card didn't have any cars to go with it.
There are a lot of really nice color choices .

Re: Bumper insulators
I have all the hardware figured out but I still have a problem . It appears that 2 of the bumper brackets are wrong , 2 of them will work on the front or back but 2 will not. Are the bumper brackets the same front and rear ? If they are I can replicate them , if they are different maybe someone can tell me the difference so I can figure out what I have .
Thanks so far . Rob.
