Is this heater control valve original?

Post by Melchior »

Hi,

I am rather sure that the heater control valve in my 250 GTE is not original. As far as I know there is a bracket or kind of holder on which the heater control valve is mounted. Can anyone tell me if mine is genuine and if not send me pictures what it should look like?!

Thank you and regards,

Martin

Greetings... What I see is not a thermostat but a heater control valve. Not sure if that is correct for your GTE but it is what is used on the 330GT.

Hello Tim,

thank you for your reply - you are absolutely right, it is the heater control valve - sorry for my bad technical English, in German you call that a thermostat. Anyhow, good to know that it was used at 330‘s, so it is a least Ferrari related. My belief is that it is wrong for the 250 GTE, but I am not sure. Maybe someone else knows?,

It looks like mine on #2693. No bracket, just floats between hoses.

Greetings... It does look different from mine. The arm and the fitting on the end of the cable are different and on mine, the hoses come off parallel to each other. Basic design looks very similar though

Here is a photo of the heater control valve on my GTE #2853.
David Wheeler commented that he had not seen one mounted like this before. It was like that when I got the car in 1971. Who knows what happened before that.

Then if you are not worried about originality:

Kerry is right as to the originality of the valve in his photo. That is not the correct shade of blue. Mike

The inner wing valance mounted heater control valve looks good to me, original or not. An improvement over a valve flapping around according to the free movement in the piping.
