3d printed aluminium heater valve housing

Post by mechaniker »

Hello guys,

I just had the problem of a rotten original heater valve. The attachment tubes already were recreated with jb-weld, but were very fragile and one broke away. I think, it finaly is beyond repair. Original replacement is not available, just the generic cheap heater valve, wich is entirely wrong.

So I took the route of 3d printing and had a friend help me, making a cad file. I printed in regular plastic to check and ordered a aluminium printed part, when I was happy.

I also have the file for the top half of the valve.

So far, it was an expensive exercise, but I am pretty happy with the outcome. I know, the finish is a bit different, than the original part, but assume it will dull over time with use and heat cycles.

If someone also need replacement, I happily help.

Great work. I think there will be some interest in this part. I'll make blog post about it soon to help get the word out.

I think I've seen the top plate being remanufactured, and it would be interesting to see if it fits.

Thanks for making the effort.

Hi Tom,

I know, GTC Parts makes also a top housing of the valve, but it is a bit different.

https://gtcp.com/portfolio/reproduction ... valve-top/

They have done a great job, but their part is for the later valve, as in GTCs and Alfas with three hose pipe valves.

Thank you very much for your comment.

I just want to say, it is working perfectly. Had the car out for 3 rides so far and it is not leaking and opening and closing perfectly.

The heater is very good, so you can drive open top in cold weather.
