Magneti Marelli alternator parts

Post by wwwboard »

Does anyone know of a source for brushes (and possibly brush holders) for the Magneti Marelli alternators used on the 365 GT 2+2? Model appears to be GCA 113A, 12V, 55A. How about a used one for parts?

Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,

I'm assumming you called the usual used parts suppliers? Call Jerry Curtis (he's in the suppliers section of this site) he may have a box of old alternators fo you to choose.

Are you looking to keep this car concours correct? A one wire GM alternator would make a great replacement, but be careful on the orientation. Does you car mount them backwards? Alternators will make juice in either direction, but it's the small cooling fan on the pulley that won't keep the alternator cool! You juat ahve to make sure you get the right fan.

If your local auto electrician can't help and you want to avoid typical ferrari prices, maybe try other Italian marque specialist like an Alfa, Lancia or Fiat place. As I'm sure your aware most of these cars shared a lot of Marelli electrics (typical parts bin engineering)

I have been going to an automotive electronics place for about 10 years now _

Boyles Future Tech
Auburn, CA

They repair electronics/electrics for all sorts of automotive to industrial engines (not restore,  but repair – No plating, painting, just new bearing, brushes, diodes, regulators…)

The alternator on my C4 was loosing a bearing, so as was my usual course of action, I took it to them and $50.00 and one day later, it had new bearings, new brushes, and they replace one of the diodes that had broken. Of course they tested it and said it was a nicely done alternator, on par with BMW, and that it was good for at least 70 amps, probably more.

I do not know if what I have is the same as the 365 GT2+2. My unit has a rather crude external voltage regulator that drives the current in the primary winding. It has a cycle rate of about 3 cycles a second so that there is noticeably light flicker and the amp meter is constantly moving. I was told this was normal.

Hope this is of some help. Boyles will talk to you on the phone. They are in the book. Area code 530

Hi Aaron,

I did a switchboard.com search for Boyles Future Tech in Auburn, CA, and couldn't find anything. If you get a chance, could you get me more information? If you've had a good experience with them, they might be a good place to add to the supplier's list.
