365 GT 2+2 Paint Sticker

Post by TOMKIZER »

I posted the following elsewhere a few months ago and got no answers at all. Here's where I should have posted it in the first place.

"I now know more than I ever wanted to know about my 1969 365 GT 2+2 paint color (Grigio Ortello). I have all the codes, the names in English and Italian, and the formulae for both lacquer and top coat/clear coat (thanks to PPG who bought Ditzler/Italver many decades ago). What I do not know and would dearly love to know is:

WERE THERE EVEN PAINT CODE STICKERS ON 365 GT 2+2 CARS ?
IF SO, WHERE ?

I bought a silver Italver sticker from Kilimanjaro Designs but don't know where to put it or even whether to put it on the car. DOES ANYBODY KNOW?"

UPDATE:The above quote is from a previous post of mine elsewhere. I never got an answer and am still looking for the Queen paint code sticker location.

However, the following photo is from Foglio No. 10 of the 365 GT 2+2 Pininfarina Parts Catalog. After 25 years, I just noticed something on the hood sketch that is not labeled. Could that be an Italver paint sticker encircled in red?

Does anyone know what that rectangle is?

Hi Tom,

That drawing from the PF book is interesting but it has always been my understanding that the paint sticker goes on the underside of the trunk lid either on the center spare at the rear(nearest car when open) or on the passenger side on the outer edge of the trunk lid.

I have seen them on several GTCs, Queens & Daytonas in basically the same locations on what I believe to be original cars. no ones going to argue with you about the location of the paint sticker, judges just like the stickers. I think more than worrying about what sticker goes where the judges just like to see the extra effort to make a great car.

What is the correct color code? 2.443.613 or 2.443.813? I think the first one (613) is a clerical error, but I am not sure. BTW, how do you translate Grigio Ortello into English?

Best wishes, Kare

According to my "Heritage Certificate" and my "Conferma originalita colori", it's 2.443.813. I too think the 613 is a clerical error.

Grigio Ortello in English is called Ortello Gray Poly (also #32780), but that's not really what you mean, I think. I heard somewhere that the name Ortello is the name of a famous Italian race horse. I don't know for sure.

I just googled Ortello and the only thing I found was an Italian race horse and an ancient village at Lago Maggiore that was demolished to build a private mansion and park.
