Wrinkle Finishes

There has always been a search for the correct wrinkle finish for Ferrari parts. The most obvious place is the rocker covers. Zac sent in pictures of his 365 engine with the original paint on the covers. This gives you a good idea what to look for when refinishing your covers.

Tom Wilson sent in some pictures of his rocker covers that he thinks are also original. The lighting is different so it's hard to make a side by side comparison, but Tom's looks grainier.

Here's a close-up.

I have seen more rocker covers looking like Zac's car than Tom's, but that doesn't mean Tom's are not original. As far as I know, there are three wrinkle paints that come out of a can:
1. Plast-i-Kote
2. VHT Brands
3. Eastwood Company

Eastwood's gave the finest grain, and in my opinion, not acceptable in replicating the original Ferrari finishes.  François has good luck with Plast-i-Kote, and the VHT seems to give a nice coarse texture that looks right for Ferrari rocker covers.

VHT sent me a sample of their wrinkle paint to try out, so look forward to a test when I get some time, and the weather gets hot enough for painting wrinkle finishes.
