Ferrari GTC4 stuck in Reverse Gear.
Hello, hoping for some help as my GTC4 got stuck in reverse while driving today.
So I was out driving and had to reverse, which was fine - then afterward I could not get it into any other gears.
- Clutch is working and does disengage, so I can still stop and start the car. ( so believe it is not clutch related )
- When I move the stick, it easily moves forward and backwards ( without clutch ) but very loose.
- Moves a little sideways on the reverse side, but will not move towards the other side ( 1and 2 )
- I have opened ( see pictures ) where the stick meets the shaft, but everything seems fine here.
- I can move the shaft forward and backwards with my fingers very easily. Can even move the shaft towards rear out of casing and further. Didn't try to pull it too far in case I can't get it back in.However seems to be completely loose when I pull it out. I that normal?
Any idea what could have happened ?
How to fix it ?
Seems like maybe something broke or got unattached in area B ( green) See picture of parts diagram.
Does anyone have a picture of an open gearbox from the top?
Do I have to take the whole gearbox out to access area B ( top front of gearbox ) ?
On my 330 I can access this area from inside without taking out the gearbox, seems like not possible here.
Any help appreciated -thank you!

Re: GTC4 stuck in reverse gear - help
Sorry to hear you're having problems. It sounds like something in the linkage has worked itself loose. Unfortunately, access to the top of the gearbox will require you drop the transmission. The 330 comes out from inside the passenger compartment, but the C/4 drops from below after you disconnect the shifter (which you have already done). Rear diff should slide back without disconnecting the halfshafts after disconnecting the coupler bolts.
Good luck and let us know what you find!

Re: GTC4 stuck in reverse gear - help
Hi Tom, appreciate your comment and confirming that the next step would be to drop the transmission.
It's a shame that there is no access to the top cover without dropping the whole transmission.
Will update once I get to the next step and will take some pictures when I open it.
Still appreciate any more advice or comments.
Also any advice on step by step order of action when dropping this GTC4 transmission as it will be first time.
Tom already gave " Rear diff should slide back without disconnecting the half-shafts after disconnecting the coupler bolts".

Re: GTC4 stuck in reverse gear - help
Hi Tom, one more thing.
Last year I changed the clutch on the 365gt 2+2, on that model it was a bit difficult to drop the transmission and put it back in place (compared to the 330 which is easy.). I got help from my Ferrari specialist friend with the job and got there in the end.
How is it to drop the transmission on the 365 GTC4, straight forward or any specific advice. Seems to be a bit different on every model. Will try to do it on my own.
Thanks for all help !!

Each car is different, but the C/4 transmission shouldn't be too hard. The biggest challenge is releasing the stupid plastic clip that holds the chrome shifter cover to the shift lever, but it looks like you already did that!
The clamps that secure the drive shaft inside the torque tube have to loosened just like the 365GT 2+2, and you need to take notes on where on the shaft they sit so the bolts will line up with the access holes in torque tube when everything goes back together, but you should be familiar with this from the previous job.
I don't recall anything too difficult outside the usual Ferrari problem solving as you take things apart. At least the C/4 transmission is smaller than that monster that lives inside a 365GT 2+2!
Good luck!

Thanks Tom !!
Actually I didn't remove the plastic clip on shift lever. The shifter ball was completely stuck on, so I opened the console, unscrewed the top shifter cover and the shift lever came out with everything still on ( ball, boot, plastic clip ) It worked
