The interim model has hanging pedals, thus a fiberglass floor.

I installed 3-point retractable seat belts in my Series II 330 GT. The interim configuration should be the same.

See http://www.parrotbyte.com/kbc/ferrari/3 ... _belts.htm and scroll down a page as the first part was installing rear seat belts.

For another neat installation, see http://www.330gt.com/Picture.html?image ... title=8617.
The retractor is mounted behind the dog leg panel, so completely out of the way.

So, it sounds like the outboard mount is the challenge. I don't find any way to get in between the rocker panel and the floor for a side mount washer/plate and nut, which would be the ideal location. Kerry made a complex bracket to achieve this location from inside the car, while fastening the bracket itself to the bottom of the pan. It looks like more than I can tackle in my shop, so that's not going to happen for my project. It's also not clear, but it appears to fasten to the pan with a single bolt, which doesn't seem very secure. My 65 Corvette belts bolt through the fiberglass to a bracket and cable assembly that then attaches to the frame. That might be an approach to improve the integrity of bolting to the glass pan.

Other thoughts are to simply bolt a non-retractable belt to the floor near the seat track with a fender washer backer or one of the commercially available mounting plates (see link below). Another possibility is to mount it where the floor rises up to the rear seat bottom as close to the corner as possible; however, I have not explored whether there is access to this area from beneath the car.

Or, do I just go with the originally intended diagonal belt...and hope for the best in the event it is actually needed?

When I got my GTE it had a nice Klippan setup, but only diagonal from left shoulder to right hip on driver side as Dyke described it. I believe they were added from new by the dealer Franco Britanic delivering it. It was a very nice setup with a chromed nicely looking attachment as an anchor pount below the quarter light window. I later found the same setup with the right chromed attachement for mounting on the left shoulder as a 3 point harness and installed that using the original anchor points an additional mounting bracket. I can post pics if needed when back from holidays in France.

Cheers

I was told that a proper shoulder belt needed to be attached above the shoulder height, where there is no place to do so in a GTE. The theory is that having it attach low would cause downward compression in the spine and shoulder when the body was thrown forward. Does this sound correct or worse than no shoulder belt at all?

To expedite the installation of some form of seatbelts, I have decided to go with a simple lap belt setup. They were good enough growing up - and it's all I have today in my Cobra and old Corvette.

I located some generic aircraft/Klippan style belts that closely match the Arancia interior color that should be satisfactory. Still need to locate the best/most convenient outboard mounting location - and will need to make an "executive decision" at some point as to where I want to drill a hole through my virgin floor pan.

Question: Does anyone know the correct size bolt to fit the captive nut on the transmission tunnel? I'm hoping to gather all the needed materials before I return to my remote workshop...

I measured the bolt on a 330GT 2+2 that goes to the driveshaft tunnel and and it measured M11x1.25. I hope it's the same on your car!
