exhaust in cabin/trunk floor holes

Post by Whiskeydave »

I have a 365 GTC and am getting some exhaust in the cabin. The trunk has the correct foam seal on the lid and lip seal. I have ordered a new shifter boot (for the hole at rear of cabin) and new rear light gaskets. In the meantime, there are 3 holes (roughly 2") in the floor of the trunk, one has a plastic bung cover and 2 are open (see pics). I have a few Alfa's and they have the same hole but slightly larger and are closed with a nice rubber grommet. Are the Ferrari holes supposed to be plugged? if open, might they suck in exhaust fumes? Anyone know a source for the parts to cover the holes? is it rubber or plastic?

Thanks for any and all help.

Hi David,

Yes, those holes should be plugged. I'm sure the usual suspects sell these plugs for Ferrari Parts, but a quick google search for "rubber body plugs" showed lots of options. Measure the diameter, and order 'er up!

Thanks Tom. I'll be sure to close this out with what I find (which has been very little so far!). They are called by many different names and are listed for some models but not all that have holes in the trunk.

you can always temporarily tape up the holes for proof of concept!

McMaster Carr has a nice solution: Buna-N Rubber Cut-to-Size Grommets for 1-3/4" Hole and 1/8" Material Thickness, 1/64" to 1-1/2" ID. I had to buy 5 for $10+shipping. They fit great and look a little nicer than the one old plastic hole cover. There's nothing in the "FERRARI 330 GTC/GTS As-Built Configuration, Authenticity, and Judging Notes" that specifies what was original. Anyone know?

The rules in Ferrari Concours judging is "one knee on the ground" to inspect the underside of the vehicle, and with most judges having trouble getting back up, you might not have to worry about them spotting the difference!
